How do i know / get the specific no. for the RAM which is compatible to my HP Presario laptop, model V6000 seems i tried to replace the 2 - 512mb to 2GB w/c is i might think that its not compatible due to it makes crushed to my system? hope you can give me the right one.

It sounds like you are not getting or hearing any post or beep codes. That would tell us exactly what the problem is.

If you are getting some life out of it then it does narrow things down. On a laptop my first question would be has it been overheating. What you have described is typical of a bad cpu. And those are usually pretty bullet proof except in laptops due to overheating. Once they are damaged all you can do is clean it out and replace the cpu. If ti was shutting down suddenly or seemed warm before it died that was most likely due to dirty vents and cooling system.

If it was your ram you should get nothing at all, it won't even try to start. You can rule out the ram just by swaping it out and trying to start it. If it has two sticks of ram just put one in and try it then take that out put the other in. There is a possability of the ram that is being accesed first being bad. So it starts being used then hits the bad area and poof. Not that common but can happen.

The motherboard is a bit harder to pin down the exact problem as it is so integrated. Without a post code we can't tell what part of it failed only that it has. So to narrow it down to this we have to make sure it isn;t cpu or ram first.

None of these are specific faults on your laptop these are common to all brands.

First issue is there an additional name for this laptop like a v2000 or v6000 you may find this along the frame of the monitor right bottom corner or top right, or above the keyboard at the top of the bezel right top corner. If this was a Vista only preloaded machine and you are trying to get drives that are not posted at HP site you may have to open a chat support with HP to get a link to the drivers. I have done this in the past and they have supplied links to specific models on an FTP site. That maybe the quickest route to the files you need.

HP provides service manuals that contain that info on their website under your product's support page. I've linked to the 6000T but you should verify the exact model and download the service manual under the product links provided...there's a section in the manual for disassembly and specifically replacing the system board.

possibly there is something wrong with the reader in your laptop.

In most of hp/compaq dv6000 series that i have worked on have bad ram , easiest way is taking out the ram and replace it. Or if you have a friend that has a hp or compaq laptop switch the ram and try boot it with there ram. Try it before you replace the bad ram.
