Keeps freezing up and will not hold the lower temp. Do not know where the defrost timer is, or how to set. I am thinking this may be the problem.

This unit is used in a restaurant and is opened and closed often. The unit will go down to -20 degrees. After a couple of days the unit starts building up frost inside from above (where the fan is) and through out the unit. We have to empty the unit and let it thaw for a few hours. Then we turn it back on once it seems to have thawed and then it will work fine as stated above for a couple of days until it repeats the problem. Thank you

I will give that a try and get back to you. Also, I do not know where the defrost timer is or do I know how to set it. That is the original idea I had to the problem. (the timer is not set properly) But since I dont know how to set it or where it is located. We bought this unit used without a manual. Thank you

There is a big sticker on the front of the door that states, set timer for proper defrost cycle

Hi there,
It looks like you have a problem with the thermostat of your refrigerator, to get that fixed you will have to replace it. So that it will be able to hold low or high temperatures again.
You may want to try to give this guys a call so they can get the replacement part and have it installed for you as well.

Hope this helps!

the presence of any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, floor, or ceiling of the freezer. Such a frost build-up usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system or damaged door gaskets. The refrigerator is supposed to self-defrost approximately four times in every 24 hour period. If one of the components in the self-defrosting system fails, the refrigerator continues to try to cool. Eventually, though, so much frost builds up on the evaporator coils that the circulating fan can't draw air over the coils. There may still be a small amount of cooling because the coils are icy, but with no air flow over the coils, cooling in the refrigerator compartment is quite limited. Here's an inexpensive, though inconvenient, way to determine if the problem is with the self-defrosting system. Remove all of the perishable food from the refrigerator and freezer, turn the thermostat in the refrigerator to Off, and leave the doors open for 24 to 48 hours. (Be sure to have several towels ready in case the melting frost and ice causes the drip pan to overflow). This allows the refrigerator to defrost "manually." When the frost and ice build-up has completely melted away, turn the thermostat back to a normal setting. If the refrigerator then cools properly, it indicates a problem with one of three components in the self-defrosting system:The defrost timerThe defrost thermostat (also called the bi-metal switch)The defrost heater

The defrost timer is not a part that has a knob you can turn or a switch to press.

It's a device incorporated in the compressor/evaporator coils and is usually controlled by the thermostat. What it will do is that it will automatically stop the compressor and defrost the refrigerator once it detects that it has been running long enough or if the temperature is at it's maximum.

Go ahead give it a try and let me know.

    Thanks!

Fridge Freezes Everything

there is a motor with a flapper that opens and closes to keep your temp correct in the refrigerator side most likely the motor is bad and stuck open so your air from the freezer has constant flow to the refr side. the flapper is in the back of the refr behind a cover where the air flows in.

Does not get cold enough

If refrigerant charge is ok, make sure that the evaporator coil is not covered with ice. The latter serves as an insulator and will keep unit from achieving designed low temps. Remove ice by defrosting unit manually and then restarting unit. If ice continues to build up at alarming rate check for the tightness of door gaskets. If lots of moisture gets into unit, it will collect and freeze on coil. Also check to see that the defrost timer is not going on excessively. Those defrost cycles can raise internal temps by as much as 25 degrees; if the cycles come on prematurely and/or very often internal temps will be high.

pull the plug and let it defrost. ck the drain for water. it maybe pluged. after 2 to 4 hrs. plug it back in and set the temp. to -10 degrees f . fill small dish or bowl with water and see how long it take to freez. if it takes longer then 4 hrs you may need freon or have a compreesor problem, or defrost timer .

Hi! My kelvinator FN360 frost free freezer's motor is running all the time and it is not freezing inside properly.Occasionally, there is a pop coming from the freezer (most of the items are frozen though)...

check your door seals. warm air leaking in can keep it from reaching it's temp. also, the condensation will collect on the evaporator coils causing them to freeze up. when they do, there is no air flow to cool the rest of the fridge, so the compressor will run constantly trying to reach the set temp. empty it out, thaw out the coils, and check your door seals for leaks. if it still happens, you might have a slow freon leak.

Freezer blowing cool air, but not freezing.

Hello there:
first make sure that the back of the unit is clear of any dirt or obstructions
also make sure that the food is not stacked up so high that the air cannot circulate also you may want to check the temperature setting if the unit does not respond to a lower setting your refrigerant level may be low or than you will have to have the temperature controle thermistor serviced or replaced

1999 Frigidaire Refrigerator

Check rear wall of freezer by feel for frost. Heavy, even frost indicates likely problem in the defrost system. Unplug unit. Defrost heater (in freezer behind rear wall panel), defrost thermostat (same area-must be checked at freezer temperature) or Defrost timer-located lower back outside of unit. Near compressor. Do continuity test on heater and defrost thermostat and if they show continuity (good), replace defrost timer. If not, replace the one that tests bad.

Defrost coils fully. Reassemble.

Please let me know if I have helped with comments and rating.

Refrigerator will work about 7-10 days after being defrosted until thick frost builds up again cutting off air flow to both compartments

I have a maytag side by side refrigerator freezer and the lower part of the freezer where the cooling coils are freeze up and won't allow the air to cool the refrigerator side.

Sound as though you need a defrost timer that is located around temp control and light in fridge side.If it is faulty it will not go into a defrost making the freezer ice up and cause alot of trouble.hope i helped thanks:)

Need correct setting for 30 yr old upright Kenmore freezer

Your best bet is to start in the middle. Guesstimate and let it run. The test is to see if water freezes solid in 6-8 hours. If not, you can turn about 1/4 turn or less. Then you can try hamburger meat which a lower freezing temp and see if it gets solid. Your perishable items should be put somewhere else until you are ready. At least the water frozen will keep the meat safe from bacteria growth or spoilage. Let me know how you do.

Continues to run

It seems your temp. control board or thermistor is not reading the temps and just keeps on running and running. Can you lower it to the lowest setting and (with a thermometer) see if the temps actually get warmer inside (will take a day or two to warm up). As for the ice on the bottom if the drain for the defrost cycle is plugged you may be getting water inside which then re-freezes. Let us know what you find and we can go from there.
