Couldn't find a mute but finally found a volume, which i set to 0. sounds finally did not record YAY (was getting mostly camera sounds and wind blowing so gently it was otherwise unnoticeable but howling in the camera). even better, it stayed at zero volume on the next power-up. thank you mar2col!!

I do not have no sound when I play a video back you can not hear. This is on my Nikon coolpix P520 camera

hi,
did you test your cam with previously recorded memory stick ?
if it gives sound, it means the speaker and audio sections are working well, if newly recorded scene not gives sound means, there may be problem with the microphone, change it.

There's no sound when I try to record video. is the microphone on it broken? It's brand new

There are two microphones for stereo, it's unlikely. Here are some suggestions:

  1. You're holding down the button while recording. Holding the button mutes sound; let go.
  2. You've got your finger over the microphone(s).
  3. You've turned off the playback volume by mistake; play a movie and use the ZOOM lever to adjust.

I bought a Kodak C143 yesterday, took a video, played it and found there is no sound. i have a microphone on the camera so it should play the sound?

You cannot adjust the sound volume on the camera but it does record the sound during videos. During playback on the camera itself you can unfortunately not hear the sound associated with your videos. You are required to download your videos to your computer to hear the sound. Wish the instruction pamphlet told us that.

Video records but plays back with no sound

Many digital cameras made for still photography have the ability to record video clips, but most of them don't record sound. They don't even have a microphone. I don't know about this camera specifically, but it would be entirely normal if it didn't have sound capability.

How do i get my microphone to work?

Please open the Control Panel and click on Hardware and sound. Now, click on Sound and select Recording tab. In the Recording tab, right click on the empty space and select Show disabled devices. The Microphone should be listed and enabled in Recording tab.

No sound on my video Kodak M340....

Your camera has a speaker and microphone.

When recording please make sure you're not covering the microphone.

If the sound is playing on the camera and on other devices.
I suspect it might be your speakers on the computer.

I get the camera cover to open, but the camera doesn't record. It only works in the cassette mode ie play, stop, ff...

Check the tape carefuly. on the flat side of the cassette that faces upwards when you insert the cassette in the camera there is a 'record protect' switch which is coloured red. if it has completely covered the hole then it is in the 'save position' .in that case you wont be able to record.to record , flip the switch outwards with your finger nail. it should now expose the small hole. you are now set to record. please make sure that you set the mode select switch on the camera to 'camera' position.

I can't hear any sound off my camera videos

Hello,

The Nikon Coolpix 4600 does not record any audio with the video.
This is surprising and not very useful.

The Coolpix 5600 does and the 4600 uses the same body, that is why it has microphone holes on the top.

No sound when playing back video footage

If there is an external microphone jack on the camera, it would help if you tried recording with an external microphone. Also, the mini DV's will mute the sound if the tape guides are slightly out of adjustment. You can tell if they have moved by trying a known good sound tape in the machine. If that plays with no sound also, the tape guides have moved out of alignment.
