I can't turn off the screen. The orange light remains on at all time when the computer is turned off.
Was working fine up to last week.
Bought it Dec. 31, 2007
The light I'm referring to is the ON and OFF light on the bottom right of the screen.
The model # is X193w. When the monitor is ON the light is blue and normally the color would turn to orange when it's idling.
The problem is that when I turn off the computer, I can't turn off the power button. The screen is OFF but the button light remains ON.

It sounds very normal; when the video signal from the computer disappears, most late monitors will go to standby mode but most will also tell you it's going to sleep with some kind of message.
Turning the main system off doesn't normally disconnect the AC from the monitor so what you describe is that the monitor is plugged into a receptacle of its own, not one that you are turning off with the PC.
BTW, PCs and TVs (including monitors) aren't really 'off' when they are off. They have a small amount of current drain that serves to keep alive certain circuits so they can respond to, for example, the return of the video signal or, in the case of a TV set, a command to power up from your remote.
They could not respond unless they can interpret the signal to wake up.

usually when you turn a monitor on it will display the company name of that monitor. Then after that it waits for the signal from the computer if there is no signal coming from the computer it usually has to do with the video card
You more like have bad capacitors in the power supply. Open it up and look for capacitors with bulging tops. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague Common problems fro 2~3 years old monitors/ TV.
Same thing happened to me! Went to bed last night, everything was fine. Woke up
today, orange light came on, no display, slight flickering seen, but
that's it. Cables and cords are fine, tried unplugging and plugging it
back in, NOTHING. Totally dead. I'm guess off to buy a new one today.
Typical made-in-China JUNK.
fiona_sheeha, If ACER warranty service not an option, then unit will need local tech to troubleshoot unit's power supply/inverter circuit for possible COMMON and repairable printed circuit board fix. You must read more of my fixya profile and visit the web links you find there so you will know and understand what ALL your options are!!! Some units require less than $5 in parts to refurbish them to working status. Your "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp" backlit LCD monitor isn't any different than any other brand of monitor in it's basic operating principles!! I hope this helps. 12fixlouie
mccampbell71 Probably a failure of inverter circuit(dc to ac 600-1100vac) to light-up (sustain) "cold-cathode-fluorescent lamps" causing the "switch-mode-power-supply" to go into full or partial SHUTDOWN mode. Black Screen of Death strikes again!!! The Question I have is why did you BUY a "black-brick" supply? Did the other one fall out of the car or get run over by a train? Only you will be able to make the decision of to REPAIR or Trade-in for new. You are no different than 5000 others worldwide (all brands) who have monitor's with BSOD! Yes, some (75-90%) can be saved to work 1-3 more years! Read some of my other responses in my profiles (12fixlouie aka louie12fix) to learn of the options you have open to you. Bye for now 12fixlouie If this info was of some use please rate on fixya.
Check your connections to the PC. Make sure that they are nice and secure. If there is a resolution problem setting it should display the boot process and then go blank after starting the operating system.
Have you used the Fn button on your laptop and changed the video display Icon on the Blue Function keys. You need to change the display wait a few seconds for it to take affect. There are several modes try them all so you know how to use them.
Hi...there,
It's turns blue to power safe mode (yellow) it's prevent futher damaged to your monitor. It's seems you got a busted backlight inverter. Need to replaced a new one...Since you only got it for a few months, send it back to Acer for a replacement of a new backlight inverter... Have a nice day!
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Thanks,
The problem seems to have been resolved by itself. So, your answer made me understand the way it works and I can figure now why it did it.
> The orange light
Do you mean a front panel LED?
