SOURCE: wrong disk
There are many chip sets for DVD machines and each has preferences for a range of disk types- most will play straight commercial discs- but things get a bit tricky with the many and various types of 'burned' disks from computers. The strange thing is - it seems the cheaper the player the more versatile they be whilst a Hi grade one can be a tad fussy about what it will and will not do. So what does this mean to you? Check the types of disk you have been playing on it and stick to it- come back with exactly what disks it don't like

yes you can take out disk, then click setup on remote, then hit + and - over and over until you see the code pop up on the screen. Arrow over to change code. I have the same problem but don't know which code to put it on. 255 is not working for me.

lachallep,
The solution for your problem will be needing a little knowledge with electronic repair and hands on.Most common problem for portable DVD player is their 1) Spindle motor the 2) flex cable ( tin ribbon wire connecting the optic lens and the main board)
note: to check if your spindle motor is working good, you must measure it's resistance and it should be around 200ohms.
For the flexcable all you have to do is check the continuity.
cheers.

hi,
Does it happen for all dvd disc or some particular dvd disc. If it is with some particular disc then clean the dvd and try them. If the problem exist for all the dvd then try to clean the lens by dvd lens cleaner and try to play. dvd lens cleaner will be available in dvd stores.
Thanks,
