Hi andmary,
While using the HP Photosmart C4180, the printer may display error messages. These messages alert you, as the printer's user, to any problems affecting the printer's performance. The printer can display the message "Carriage Blocked" on the printer's display screen, stopping any current print jobs and preventing you from printing anything until you resolve the problem. The error message can be caused by an actual obstruction, such as a stuck piece of paper, keeping the cartridge carriage from moving freely inside the printer. Sometimes the error is a result of a software error.

Instructions:
1. Turn off the printer, wait 15 seconds, then turn it back on. Press the "Setup" button on the control panel, then use the arrows to highlight "Print Report" and press the "Ok" button to print a self-test page.
2. Remove all the loose paper from the printer's input tray. Turn off the printer and open the back door by depressing the tab on the left side.
3. Pull out any stuck paper, being sure to turn the rollers to check for small pieces of paper. Close the back door and open the printer's front door.
4. Remove any stuck paper from the printer. Move the cartridge carriage from the left to the right side of the machine, removing anything that stops the carriage's movement.
5. Push down on each cartridge, then pull each one out of its slot. Replace the cartridges in their slots, then push forward on them until they each click into place.
6. Plug the printer back in and turn it on, then unplug the printer's power cord from the back of the machine and the electrical outlet. After at least 15 seconds, plug the power cord back in and turn the printer back on. If the problem persists, take the printer to a repair shop.

Hope this helps.
Thank you for using Fixya!

Carrier jam on lexmark x5070 how do I fix it or clear it?

We apologize for the inconvenience. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix the problem:
  1. Open the printer cover to access the cartridge area. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.
  2. Remove both cartridges from the printer.
  3. Check the cartridge area and make sure encoder strip is not loose. The encoder strip is transparent strip located behind the cartridge carrier along with the carrier belt.
  4. If encoder strip is properly seated in the printer, close the printer cover.
  5. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, re-insert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors. The carrier jam could be due to one of the cartridges.
  7. If no error appears, re-insert the other cartridge.
  8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear.
  9. If no error appears, try to print again to verify that the carrier jam issue is fixed.
We hope this information has been helpful.

My 2710 All In One keeps giving an error message that the printer cartridges are...

Is your cartridge clogged,,,

Then in the maintenance settings in PRINTERS AND FAXES,, do a deep ink cleaning,,

If that fails then blot the cartridge on a piece of tissue damped with alcohol.. or let the cartridge sit in some rubbing alcohol for a cpl or minutes and then blot it..

As a last resort if the above fails,,, WARNING NOT A CONVENTIONAL METHOD

try boiling the cartridge for a few minutes,, MAKE SURE THE WATER IS BOILING BEFORE U PUT THE CARTRIDGE in.. so to to remove most of the air from the water to prevent corrosion

I'm getting an error msg and can't print. It says please fix cartridge jam and hit enter. I can't find any jam. What do I do?

If there isn't a cartridge jam then it's probably a carriage jam:
However, I'm not too familiar with clearing a carriage jam. I just know that if your cartridges are not blocked then the carriage is likely at fault. You will need to Google this on how to fix a carriage jam.

My printer isnt feeding paper in straight and it keeps on jamming and saying that there isnt any paper.. is there anything i can do to esay fix it???

Check the following steps for fixing Hp Carriage Jam Error :

Open the print carriage access door. Check for any packing material that may be blocking the internal components. Check for an orange shipping lock that may still be in place on the left side. Pull the shipping lock out, if present, and discard.

Remove and reinstall the cartridges to make sure they are properly installed. Lift the front center of the print carriage access door to open it. Lift the door up until it locks into an open position. Press down on a print cartridge and allow it to spring back up. Lift the cartridge out of the printer. Do the same for the other cartridge. Slide the black cartridge into the slot on the left and the color cartridge into the slot on the right. Press down on each one to lock it into place. Lower the print carriage access door.

Check the print cartridges to make sure the protective tape has been removed from the ink nozzles. Remove the cartridges from the printer. Remove any tape or labels. Replace the cartridges into the printer.

Push in on the tab on the left side of the clean-out door on the back of the printer to open the door. Lift the door out of the printer. Check for any paper jams. Jammed paper can block the printer cartridge carriage from moving. Pull any jammed paper out.

How do I fix a cartride jam?

Have you tried
(1) running "print clean" or something like that?. (If you don't know how to do that, check your manual).
(2) Removing cartridge/s and installing again?
(3) Cleaning head by dabbing lightly with Q-tip in isopropyl alcohol?

Other possible solutions depend on answers.

It starts printing, then stops, the printer cartrige is jammed

Try emoving the duplex cartridge on the back (return printer to it's original configuration) and try printing. If the printer prints OK, then re-attach the duplexer checking for anything that could interfere with the print cartridge.

If the printer doesn't print, then I suspect something has fell into the printer and is creating enough resistance for the printer to detect and report. Turn the printer off, Remove all the cables from it. Try inverting the printer and gently shake it to see if anything falls out that could be jamming the printer cartridge.

Carriage Jam

Make sure you can move the print cartridge holder freely and that it isn't being blocked by anything inside the printer, also check if the cleaning station is in the right position, maybe it is locking the cartridges.
