Poor cleaning results in 4 year old dishwasher

We've had this dishwasher for about 4 years; has worked well until now. We use 5 in 1 tabs rather than powder etc but at the end of the wash cycle, there is a trail of semi-liquid tab powder running down the inside of the door. Some of the dishes (top and bottom) do not appear to have been cleaned/rinsed properly.

Lots of Dishwasher Issues- I have a Bosch dishwasher that is approximately 1 year old. For the first 6-9 months it cleaned perfect. It would wash everything off the dishes and leave them sparkling clean...

Do you have hard water? Many states have passed laws that outlawed phosphate as an ingredient in dishwasher detergent. If you have hard water, the detergents don't work very well anymore. The residue is probably hard water deposits (calcium and magnesium). Not harmful but it looks awful on your dishes. There are some new products that were designed to solve this exact problem. They are inexpensive and effective. Can't say the name or I'll get banned (again). Internet search will uncover it.

Sorry you have had so much problems with this dishwasher. Before you "take it to the street" please check one more thing. I have had so many people say similar problems.
    1. Check that you are using rise aid if their is an adj. set it to 4-5
    2. Make sure the soap in the dishwasher is a name brand. Dollar store soap will only get white film and poor results
    3. Everyone should run there sink water for at least 2min before you run the dishwasher making sure the cold water is flushed from the line and hot water enters (better wash and shorter wash times)
    4. Water entering has to be at least 125 degrees always.
Also run a bottle of Dishwasher Magic once a month to clean out your dishwasher.
This should do wonders for your cleaning results. Have a super weekend!

Glasses in top rack not getting clean anymore.

-Have you changed the dishwasher soap recently? What are you using? Is the powder remaining behind in the soap dispenser?
-Have you removed the filter in the sump area, cleaned it and removed any debris under the filter. (watch out for broken glass that is almost always found in 5 year old dishwashers.)

-You are running water at the sink until it gets hot, but you may still have problems if the heating element has failed. Recommend you check that element. If you can get to the element, check resistence of the heater to see if is has any at all.
If heating element checks out good, the next common problem is a failing wash pump motor.

    Dishwasher is leaking

Gasket probably became dislodged, replace door gaskets, at 4 years old I would replace the gaskets, they are not expensive.

Dishwasher fills cycle runs for a few seconds and then it stops and motor growls

Check for a deformed shaft on the water level float. Remove the kick plate and look for where the shaft of the float touches a micro switch. Often the shaft is bent sideways and only engaging the micro switch indirectly. Straighten by hand for a temporary fix or reinforce the shaft with aluminum tape and sewing needle. Keep the retrofit light weight to avoid problems with water overflow.

Its also possible you may have debris clogging the check valve that keeps water in the tub during certain cycles. To find the checl valve you'll need to remove the lower rack and completely disassemble the central assembly from the top down. If you are mechanicaly inclined its not hard. If you are worried about proper re-assembly, then video tape the disassembly as a memory aid and stack the parts and screws in careful succession.

Once you reach the steel garburator blade you only have one more plastic plate to remove. Examine both ports on the plate to ensure that there is no jam or debris. Throughout the disassembly, look for any broken glass or debris that could be jamming or clogging.

If neither of the above problems is found then the other possibility is a deflective or melted down circuit board. Check your owner's manual for longer warrantees on the control panel. A long time ago they use to have 3 - 5 year warranty. More recently the warrantees have been only for one year. Check your owner’s manual because if you ask the call centre they will always say one year even if the warrantee is longer. If the part is covered then disassemble the door to get at the control panel. Look for signs of melting/overheating. If the unit is out of warrantee then replace the dishwasher. The control panels cost as much as the dishwasher. Replace your Maytag with a quality brand like Miele. Avoid, Maytag, Jennair, Kitchen Aid, Whirlpool, Kenmore, White Westinghouse. They are all made by the same umbrella company with the same crappy parts, poor reliability, poor cleaning results and short term warrantees.

Use to be you could get 10 – 20 years of service from a North American brand. These days 3 – six months of clean dishes as much as many customers can expect before dishes become progressively more and more disgusting. Poor engineering is responsible because the designs are prone to jams, clogs, water level malfunctions and circuit board failures.
