the switch should beep if you switch between channels or Ports.
It seems that you might want to download the manual and try to reset the unit. If this doesn't work call their support. Avocent has free support as far as I know.
ehm the 8035 doesn't have a comp port but an RJ 45 port, the unit comes with a rollover cable and an Avocent Adaptor which should be used to access the unit.
The parts are the following items:
540-604-501 Adapter [RJ-45 to DB-9 DCE Female]; equivalent to Equinox 210095 540-605-501 Cable [RJ-45 Reversing Modular Cable]; equivalent to Equinox 690226
Maybe the switch doesn't support the type of monitor that you are trying to use. Have you tried switching back to the old monitor to see if that one still works?
Are you using any software that communicates with that Switch? As far as I can remember of the top of my head, that switch doesn't have a Web interface.
