Answered

Washer does not spin or drain. Water will fill tub and washer will agitate, but does not drain or spin even when I turn know to next step in cycle. Timer knob does not advance to ensd of cycle. Does not advance past agitate on any of the settings (perm press, gentle, regular etc) even when we manually activate lid switch. We checked the water pump, it was clear and seemed to be working fine, also we were able to check the belt and get it to move manually. We have an Ultimate Care II model # LSN1000KQO Type- 111, less than 5 years old. Original ownership within family.

This problem is most often caused by a defective washer lid safety switch, pull the top un and bypass the lid switch, if the washer operates normally replace the switch.

lid switch is bad chance are you can by pass this by removing the timer header and crossing the outer wire on the lid switch that it mounted closest to the lid not the power cord this will tell you if you need a switch

if you hear the motor running while it is supposed to be agitating or spinning then it is most likely the direct drive coupling between the motor and transmission.43f18ab.jpg9bd1c44.jpg if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.  Mike

I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washing machine (model LSN1000JQ0). The washer will fill with water and begin to agitate. Shortly after it will stop and will not drain. I've cleaned all hoses

It spins, but doesn't pump If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out. To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port. Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job. If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump. It doesn't spin or pump If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. It pumps, but the water returns If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck in the drain?) Also, check for these problems: If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess. If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly.

Water runs but doesn't fill tub and wont spin if put on spin cycl
The water-level switch regulates your washer's fill volume. This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch.

MY TOP LOADER WHIRLPOOL WASHER FILLS WITH WATER BUT WILL NOT SPIN OR DRAIN. I CAN NOT GET THE TUB TO EVEN MOVE BY HAND. ALSO IT MAKES A NOISE WHEN IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE MOVING.
A faulty lid switch will do that(assuming it agitates. If not agitating then the motor coupler is the next suspect.

Does washer drain before the spin cycle starts?
Normally yes. There are around 12 to 20 gallons of water in the tub after the wash cycle, which will be anywhere from 63 to 110 pounds of weight in addition to the weight of the clothes. For the machine to start the spin cycle to remove this water would place a heavy load on the motor, gearcase, pullys, belts, gears, ect. With the water drained, the load is lighter, and much easier to start spinning the excess water out of the clothes. The normal cycles are: Fill, Agitate, Drain, Spin, Rinse Fill, Agitate for rinse, Drain, Spin Cycle and off. Imagine trying to spin a 5 gallon bucket of water over your head, full of water, and then empty. Which one do you think would be easier to do? And safer for you.

It won't drain If your washer won't drain, check these:

It spins, but doesn't pump 
It doesn't spin or pump
It pumps, but the water returns
It spins, but doesn't pump If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out.

Kenmore stack washer and dryer
gabehart....sounds like belt is slipping. Replace it. The water pump is on a separate smaller motor so is not affected by the agitator/spin motor.
