Make sure that the out going and incoming mail servers is set correctly
there is no need to have an outlook express set up to muse another e-mail service
contact your service provider and have them tell you how to set it up properly

Email alert can't be set up keeps saying test email failed please help

I have successfully set this up using yahoo.uk mail.
I cannot get it to work with gmail or virgin mail.

Use these settings:

pop/smtp email server > smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk
send to email address > your email address
account > your email address without the "@yahoo.co.uk"
password > your password

You can forward emails to your normal email address so that you can get alarms on your mobile without adding another email account.

Unfortunately your computer needs to switched on with sec24 running.

SMPT server is set as smpt.three.co.uk port number 465 Pop3 is set as pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk     port  number 995 Put in my password for Yahoo - is that wrong should it be the password for...

SMPT is your outgoing mail. This should be set for your service providers site which i understand is smtp.virgin.net. (If this fails try replacing .net with .co.uk) POP3 is your incoming mail. That should be set to your email service provider, so it appears to be right. The password is your email password i.e. the Yahoo password as this is needed to access your email.

Is it possible to connect MS Outlook to yahoo.com?

yahoo's UK page has instructions on this and here they are: id rather paste theirs than type my own...

  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Click the "Add" button.
  4. From the Add menu, click "Mail."
  5. In the text box labelled Display Name, type your name and click "Next."
  6. In the Email Address box, type your Yahoo! Mail address (be sure to include "@yahoo.com") and click "Next."
  7. Under "My incoming mail server is a…" select "POP3."
  8. Type "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk" in the Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server box.
  9. Type "smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk" in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
  10. Click "Next."

  14. Do not check the boxes labelled "Log on using Secure…"
  15. Click "Next."
  16. Click "Finish."
Important: The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server now requires authentication. To turn this setting on:
  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Double-click the account labelled "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk."
  4. Select the "Servers" tab.

To control deletion of messages from the Yahoo! Mail server:
  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Double-click the account labelled "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk."
  4. Select the "Advanced" tab.
  5. If you'd like to keep a copy of your email messages on the Yahoo! Mail server, check the box next to "Leave a copy of messages on the server." If you want to delete your messages from the Yahoo! Mail server after viewing them in Outlook Express, don't check the box.
If you're unable to send email, try using port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. Here's how to make this change:
  1. From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts."
  2. Select your Yahoo! POP account and click the "Properties" button.
  3. Click the "Advanced" tab.
  4. Next to "Outgoing server (SMTP"), change port 25 to 587.
  5. Click "Apply." Then click "OK" and "Close."

Pop3 account set up on htc tytnII

For Blue Yonder, Virgin, NTL you must only put the mailbox name in for the username.
Also, for the outgoing server do not use the blue yonder value unless you are at home. The outgoing server has to match the broadband supplier, unless you have your own website set up for email and most providers will accept this
