SOURCE: OSD LOCK

You are having a problem with the OSD lock on your ViewSonic Monitor. Is that correct?
If so, please follow these instructions to unlock or lock your monitor.
On some display devices, there is an OSD Lock that locks all current control settings and prevents access to the control menus until this mode is unlocked.
The method for unlocking the OSD is different for different monitors, but will be one of the 2 below. If the first method doesn't work, try the second.
Method 1: Press and hold both the [1] button on the front of the monitor and the down arrow button for 10 seconds.
Method 2: Press and hold both the [1] button on the front of the monitor and the up arrow button for 10 seconds.
Note: These same buttons, when pressed for another 10 seconds, will lock the OSD

Please let us know if you require any further help with this matter.

If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!

SOURCE: My buttons to change monitor settings are locked.

On the monitor there is a menu button. Press and hold down on the Menu Button for approx. 10 seconds until you see the menu. This unlocks it. If you care to lock it again, just do the same thing. For the record, I have a HPw2207 monitor. Hope this helps. Jim

OSD LOCK

Follow this link: http://www.thefakegeek.com/2009/04/how-to-unlock-an-osd-lockout-problem/

Basically you have Four options.

Fix One: Plug in the monitor and power it up. Hold down the Power button until you get a message saying "OSD Unlocked". If the problem persists after OSD is unlocked then unplug the monitor from the wall, wait 20 seconds and try again.
Fix Two: Turn on the monitor and hold down the Menu button for 10-20 seconds. This should unlock the OSD.
Fix Three: Turn off the monitor, press down the Menu button and then turn on the monitor. Wait 10-20 seconds. This should unlock the OSD.
Fix Four: The Menu button may be stuck in a pressed in position. To get it "unstuck" you'll usually need to open up the monitor. This could be tricky unless you know what you're doing. Unfortunately there are too many models of monitor for me to provide detailed instructions. If you have warranty this is where you want to contact the manufacturer.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa.

My HP 1730 monitor is showing "OSD Lock Out" message. How can I remove this msg?

The following site has step by step instructions on steps you can try: http://www.ehow.com/how_5008634_fix-lockout-display-computer-monitor.html
I'll paste them below: All computer monitors, whether they are LCD or CRT style, have a built-in feature called the on screen display (OSD) lock out that prevents users from viewing any images on the monitor. If your computer screen has accidentally been set to the OSD lock out setting, there are several different ways you can remove the lock out, depending on the make and model of your particular computer monitor.
1 Power your computer completely off and then remove the monitor cable from the port on the back side of the computer case. Reattach the cable and make sure the pins are correctly screwed in all of the way. Power the computer back on and check to see if the OSD lock out message is still being displayed.
2 Check the manual that came with your computer or monitor and locate the troubleshooting section if you are still receiving the OSD lock out message. Find the OSD lock out heading and read the method that your particular model of monitor uses to remove the lock out. Follow the instructions to remove the lock out.
3 Attempt generic lock out removal procedures if you no longer have the manual that came with your monitor. Press and hold the "Menu" button located at the bottom end of your monitor for 15 seconds and wait to see if the OSD lock out message disappears.
4 Press the "Menu" button again if the lock out message remains on the screen. Use the arrow buttons to navigate through the main menu options. Highlight the "Settings" or "OSD Menu" option and then hit the Menu key again to access the new list of settings.
5 Scroll down to the "OSD Lock" heading. Use the arrow keys to change the setting to "No." Hit the Menu key again to return to the main menu. Scroll over to the "Exit" setting and then hit the Menu key a final time to exit the menu setting and remove the OSD lock out.

How to Unlock an "OSD Lockout" Problem

osdlockout.jpg This has most likely annoyed many of you at some point. You turn on your monitor one day and see a jeering message telling you something about an "OSD Lockout". It doesn't allow you to change any of your monitors settings, including the setting intended to turn off this message. While I've only seen this error on HP monitors I know that others have encountered it on other brands as well. The fixes I provide should work on those monitors too. (Note: OSD stands for On Screen Display.)
If you know of any other fixes feel free to contact me. Good luck!

Osd locked

Unplug the monitor from under the screen. Leave it off for a min. If OSD returns, it's a bad monitor. Maybe a button is stuck ?

This is from the user manual for the monitor. You can download a copy from hp here:

Click on the "monitor user's guide" link to download.

There are four adjustable options on the OSD settings screen: Lock OSD settings, Timeout, H Position, and V Position.
To change OSD settings:
1 Open the OSD setting screen under the Advanced menu. See
“Using the On Screen Display” on page 25.
2 Press the Browse buttons to select the option you want to adjust.
3 Press the Select button to check the option.
To change OSD lock setting:
1 Press the Browse button to select yes (lock) or no (unlock). The
setting is automatically saved when you change the value.
2 Choose Exit sub-menu and press the Select button to return to
the OSD Main Menu or press the Menu button to exit OSD.
NOTE: Once OSD is locked, all OSD functions including the
shortcut buttons are disabled. If OSD is locked, pressing
any button on the monitor directly opens the Lock OSD
settings window so that you can unlock OSD.
