Can the pc game liberty kids be played on windows 7

This is a great game for kids but unfortunately it doesn't work for windows 7, vista etc. Is programed for windows 98. Was a bit disappointed that it would not work for the latest windows.

If you have Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise edition of Windows 7 you can download a free program called XP Mode from Microsoft which will allow you to play the game.

I have a vista computer and this game has worked on it before, but now when I try to play it, it says I need an Indeo Video decompresser 5 or later...I never changed the video card and the game has worked...

It may be due to a windows update. You could try system restore to turn your pc back to an earlier time

The Learning Company CD Rom Game Liberty's Kids will not play on my Vista laptop. In will install, but not play.

Right-click on the icon for the game in the start menu or on the desktop (if one was placed there) and select Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. In the section marked Compatibility Mode, select the checkbox and from the drop-down list choose Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Click OK and try running the program using the modified shortcut. If you get any error messages about insufficient permissions, you may need to go back to that same tab and select the Run as administrator option at the bootm of the property page.

I was able to play Liberty's Kids on a Windows 7 64 bit laptop. First I installed the game, then ran the Intel Indeo codec installer from Install\indeocodec. Didn't have to set any compatibility options for either.

I do not have the game to test and The Learning Company has made a lot of games that were very OS specific. Windows 7 has some excellent Compatibility tools though that can overcome most problems with some of these older games.
1. install the game 2. right click on the .exe and pick "troubleshoot compatibility" from there on you pretty much just follow the wizard and it will set it up to run in whatever mode (i.e. xp, win98, etc) it needs to run in. This is not foolproof but it has worked for almost every application of game I have thrown at it.
