What factor that can make your external hard drive become unrecognized and cant detected by our computer and also the light indicator is off but the mechanical part inside of it still spinning but not recognized? thank you

If you could be more specific. Does it not get detected on the system or is unrecognized by the system. or Did you drop the hard disk?

In case of physical damage you need to see a data recovery specialist.

some proble was in USB socket of your external HDD...poor contact...
try to use another HDD enclosure to use with you HDD..
that problem occur due to pluging in and out several times...maybe the connector was damaged...hope it helps..

or try another PC again...some problems are not detected due to virus in PC...

This is a common issue with Iomega external drives. Although windows detect it as an external drive but it show up the drive.

I dont know if this will work for you but looking on the web I came accross someone who had a similar problem they fixed it as follows.
They installed Tweak UI and then
She was able to get the drive recognized using "Tweak UI", clicking on My Computer, Drives,and check marking Drive F. It did the trick.

This message usually indicates one of two things:

1 - The driver for the device is not loaded or has become corrupted (I trust that one of the other troubleshooting steps you took included reinstalling the drivers...) or more likely,

2 - The device has malfunctioned. More likely than not, the hard drive itself is OK, only the electronics in the case has failed.

If the device is still under warranty, give Maxtor Customer Service a call and get it replaced. Of course all of the data you have will be gone unless you can convince them to send you ONLY the replacement case and electronics, not the hard drive. In which case you will have to open the old case, remove the hard drive and put it into the new case.

If the external hard drive is not detected by yur computer, try first connecting the drive on a different USB port so we can test the USB port and then after that if still not yet detected try a different USB cable to test the cable and after that still not detected connect the drive on different computer so we can see if this is already a hardware problem.....

Try taking the side off and removing and replacing all the hard drive leads. Remove and replace all the scsi drives and generally check for loose connections. If this does not work you will need to post more infomation.
