I found a fix for this that worked for me. Dont ask why I tried it but it worked! I put a HDMI switcher between the cablebox and the yamaha HDMI input. I am not sure why it works but it does. The audio was actually clearer and the center channel responded better. An hdmi switch is about $25. Good Luck!
Can I bi-wire speakers
I had the same issue with the same yamaha system
My cable box sound is the only thing that will cut out.
If you have the same issue with the cable box go to the menu on it and click setup, then click audio setup.
Then change the audio output to advanced and compression to heavy and stereo output to matrix.

Settings are not the source of intermittent problems.
"Signal loss" is indicated WHERE? So what's going on upstream at the source? ITS cables are a part of this.
My $.02... I never route any signal unnecessarily to or through a device that doesn't enhance or consume it. Hence, my BEST video from each of my several video sources goes directly to my TV/monitor and my BEST digital audio from all sources goes directly to my AVR.
No problems.
