We have 52 inch Bravia KDL-52XBR4 which we purchased in 2008. It has recently been having like a green haze that starts on one side and works it's way across the screen darkening the picture and taking most of the color out of it and also distorts the picture some. It will kind of keep coming from the right side and so far has only lasted a minute or so.

The resolution on this was to check the surge protector the television was plugged into. Once we unplugged and plugged into another surge protector, the screen went back to normal and the appearance was great. We believe this was due to one of the resistors within the surge protector may have become faulty.

It sounds like a bad panel or possibly a bad digital board. This board is mounted on the back of the LCD panel. Have it checked by a repair shop.

Sadly, a replacement screen itself would cost more than the TV is worth.

I know it seems like a crazy price. But, TV manufactures buy a mass quantity at a lower price. Where buying just one screen panel cost an arm and a leg. Buying a new TV is the best choice money wise.

It sounds lcd panel is defective in your KDL-52XBR4 tv and replacement is required but it would cost you 80% of new tv price.
Let me know how old is this tv and is it under warranty?

Sony has extended warrenty on 46 XBR4 & 46 XBR5 for picture anomalies - like yours. Check with Sony customer service. Good Luck.
