  1. Serial ATA:  If you have a 3.0 Gbit/sec SATA drive that is not being detected by your 1.5Gb/sec SATA controller, or it causes your system to lock up when connected to a 1.5 Gbit/sec SATA controller, you may need to jumper your 3.0 Gbit/sec SATA drive to the slower speed of 1.5 Gbit/sec for the system to recognize it properly. For further information on changing the jumper setting to slow down your SATA drive's transfer rate, please see Document ID: 193775

-48-9s.jpg -- (Click to expand) Jumper settings for Maxtor-brand SATA drives

ATA:  It is recommended that all Seagate ATA hard disks supporting the Cable Select jumper option be configured as Cable Select. If your computer system was built prior to October 1998 and does not support UDMA 66 or greater you will be required to use the Master/Slave jumper settings.

When using Cable Select jumper settings on your ATA drive, all devices connected to the UDMA cable must also use the Cable Select setting. The cable decides master/slave device detection when the cable select jumper settings are used. Please consult Document ID: 196299 for further instructions.

  2. Faulty Hard Drive

If you have completed the above checks and procedures and the drive is still not properly detected, please attempt to use Seatools for DOS (see the tutorial here) to test the drive.  If SeaTools does not detect the drive after the steps followed above, or an error code that signifies drive failure displays, please proceed to the our Warranty Services page to begin a warranty replacement order.

My Hard drive dosen't work again the system could not recognize it.

Good Day.
Don't know if your external hard drive has power led on it, that comes on when connected to the PC. If it has these led, does it come on when connected to the PC? If no, then I believe there's is problem in the connection within the external Hard disk. So maybe you buy a new cord or you just have to change the connection panel or buy a hard disk casing that has the panel for connection in it.

Or, if the led give light, do you feel any movement (or rolling) within the external hard disk when connected? If yes then it's still working, just try the first recommendation.

I hope this helps. Thanks for using FixYa!

How can I attach this as a slave drive to my desktop pc as it is not being read by my pc?

You don't need to attach it as a slave drive. Just plug it in to a usb slot on the pc. If you've tried formatting it and been unsuccessful and If your pc isn't recognizing it and it has Windows XP or later installed then the drive is dead.

Is the PC you've used before is the operating system is windows Xp? If you've using windows Xp before then you've plug it in a windows 7 Operating system, it means your hard disc have no problem the operating system of your PC is different than before. Try to plug it in a windows Xp operating system then recover it in there then format it in a windows 7 operating system then, the windows Xp and windows 7 try to make a network place in the connection then share the hard disc files that you've recovered then copy and paste it in the newly format hard drive that formated in a windows 7 operating system.

Hi there and welcome to Fixya!
This error indicates that the processor is not able to communicate with your External Hard Disk.
I'm pretty sure you've already tried connecting the External Hard Disk to a different computer. If not, this is the best time to do it to isolate the issue. If you're having the same issue with other computers, then the problem lies with the External Hard Disk. There's a possibility that it's damaged, corrupted or infected by a virus. If it's still under warranty, get assistance with the manufacturer. If it's not, try checking the cable for any physical damaged, or better yet try a known good working cable.
Also, try restarting the computer when the External Hard Disk is connected to see if the computer can check its volume during the reboot. If the External Hard Disk failed to load after restarting, it is a possible virus issue. I would suggest running the most up-to-date antivirus software that you can find to scan your system and the external hard disk itself.

I have purchased Fujitsu MHV2080AT. It says new hardware found and it is ready to use but I dont see any drive on mycomputer. But if I see in mange it show the "VUZIVSW_HV228AV RL2 2 USB device"...

Right click MyComputer and select Manage. Look for Storage on the right and select Disk Management. Find your drive and format the partition by right clicking it and selecting Format. Use NTSF, default allocation size then give the drive a letter or name. After that it should show up in MyComputer.

Here is a 10 day free trial of a software recovery program that can be burned to a disk. You would then boot from that disk with your external drive plugged in, and after it loads the software, tell it to find all available files. When you find your files, copy them to your regular hard drive and reformat the external. Copy the files back to your external drive. Hope that helps some.

starting with your last question first, our advice is free but you can choose to pay someone for their professional advice if you wish.
from vthe symptoms you explain, it sounds like the the drive is just about dead, continual clicking usually indicates some sort of physical damage to the drive itself.
if the drive fails completely, data recovery would be quite expensive in these instances so if possible you should get another external drive and transfer your data before the inevitable happens.

What kind of enclosure and cable do I need to make my drive exter

This drive is an IDE/ATA hard drive.
To use this as an external hard drive, I suggest you purchase an USB hard drive adapter case (with an USB cable) and install the hard drive into this case.
When you plug this adapter into the USB port of a computer, the computer will see this as an external hard drive.
