I have a generator that has a rubber grommet in the bottom of the fuel tank. The on/off valve insert directly into the grommet. I've already had the grommet disintergrate and the fuel line just fall off. This resulted in the fuel tank draining all ove the ground. Could be a real big problem (fire hazard) if this happened while the generator was in operation. Any suggestions on a fix?

You must be storing the generator with fuel in it. The ethanol in the gas breaks down the soft parts, usually in the carburetor, but looks like you got a bonus with this one. After you have repaired it, keep the tank empty and store the fuel in a separate can with the appropriate amount of fuel stabilizer.

Troy Bilt 3550 5250 Watts Generator model# 01924. How do I replace a Fuel Shut-Off Valve and grommet on it?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from Cars and Trucks to Generators.

Hi Joe
Good to see you. There is a picture of it here. I would put some Vaseline on the spigot and support the grommet at the back, push and turn at the same time.

This is a video here that may help

Can,t get carb off to clean ETQIN1800i

There are two plastic nipples that are pressed into rubber grommets, just grab the bottom and pull straight out while wiggling the air box assembly. Make sure you pull the rubber fuel lines out of the way so that the air box cam come straight out. The resistance you are feeling is either the rubber grommets or the fuel lines in the way. I have had mine apart a dozen times!

My portable generator with plastic gas tanks fuel shut off valve is leaking at rubber grommet

Hopefully you can tighten it up. If it is a push through set up where the valve pushes through the grommet and that is all that seals it you will have to replace the grommet with a new one. Many small engine shops will have them or you may find one at an auto parts store. You will have to take the old one out and take it with you to match it up for size.

My Coleman generator runs great for about 3-5 minutes then shuts down.

I am guessing this is caused by some type of floating debris in your tank. I think that unit might just have a simple grommet holding the outlet fitting into the bottom of the tank. Try removing the outlet fitting and try to make sure the tank and fitting are free from debris.

I NEED to replace the pcv value in my 1991 buick century custom 3.3 engine car. how do i do that

Ok when you're looking at your engine look at the valve cover with a black rubber hose with a funny plastic piece which fits into a rubber grommet in the valve cover. This is the pcv positive crankcase ventilation valve. Remove the pcv from hose after you've obtained a replacement throw it away insert it into the hose then the valve cover and you're good to go
