Hello there, the statement above does not state a complte problem. Please provide more information to enable us give exact details of the solution to the problem. Hoping to hear from you soon. Thank you for visiting FixYa.
Thanks for the feedback.
Hello there, the pride legend mobility scooter has two levels of brakes. The brake which is used to stop the unit while in motion as well as thee one used when the unit is parked to avoid uncontrolled movement while it is not manned. Which of these are you referring to?
Hello there, certain scooters have automatic braking systems for when the unit is parked. Your seems to fall into this category. What you might need to do is replace the entire braking system and apparently your unit has brake issues from the factory as the problem you are facing seems rampant with owners of your unit. The parking brake as well as braking system during motion are both out of order. The procedure for replacing this requires taking apart the motor and most likely there would be damages as some components might need replacement.

Hi,
Are you having a problem with your scooter???
If so, exactly what problem are you having???
Please try to describe in detail what it is or is not doing...
Comment back with more information so we can help you..

Hi,
The only way to install that is by removing the drive....this is a major undertaking and should be done only by experienced persons for your own saftey...I would not recommend you doing it yourself especially without know what you can handle your self and your knowledge level...
Yes, you can buy parts online, but I cannot recommend that you install it your self..

I have a 4 wheel Pride Legend mobility scooter. With the key in the on position and not pushing the throttle, the scooter freewheels. With the key off the scooter is locked. There is no breaking when driving the scooter either. It just coasts to a stop. I see from searching the internet that the brakes are a problem with this model but I didn’t find any solution to this particular problem. The local repair person wants to replace the entire motor/brake assembly for around $800.00. However, I think the drive proton of the motor is fine. The controller seems to take a few seconds to come up and then works fine (as far as I can tell) when the key is turned on. Also, sometimes I need to go (just touch) the backwards direction on the throttle before the scooter will move forward. All of this is annoying but the freewheeling problem is my real concern. I found a brake assembly on the internet for about 80.00. I wouldn’t mind purchasing it and trying it but I can’t figure out how to install it without removing the entire drive from the scooter. If you think this is the problem please include how to install the brake assembly in your response.

I can get the thing apart and back together. However, I need to verify that the brake assembly is actually bad before I order it and before taking the scooter apart. Is there anything else in the brakeing system that I should check first, second, 3rd .....?? Please send me the procedure to check this breaking system. Please verify that the brakes are supposed to be locked when the scooter is stopped and the key is on!
I believe the braking system has failed on this scooter. However, I cannot remember exactly how they are supposed to work. If they ever did. I think the brake is supposed to lock the wheels when the scooter is stopped even if the key is on. Also, I think the brake is to activate when the throttle is in the natural position. Please confirm this is the correct function on a Pride Legend scooter. If not please let me know how it is supposed to function. If I have the correct function, please tell me the components that are in the breaking system and how to check them to determine exactly what component(s) has failed.
I don't think I can be any clearer than this. If you still don't understand my question learn how to read English.
I assume that the parking brake is not active when the key is on. Correct? If so, then the system that slows the scooter has failed. If the parking brake is active when the scooter is stopped but the key is on than this system has failed also. There is no braking when the operator wants to slow or stop the scooter. When the scooter is stopped (parked) and the key is on, the scooter is free to roll. When the key is off and the scooter is parked, the scooter's rear wheels are locked and the scooter cannot be rolled.
rockmeister,
You are most likely correct but before I take the motor/brake assembly apart: This scooter has two electrical harnesses coming out of the brake assembly. If I remember correctly one is on the top and one is on the bottom and they both have two or three wires in each of the harnesses that go into two connectors. For each braking node, what should be the voltage applied at the connectors/breaking assembly and across which connecter pins (or wire color would also be fine). For example I need to know:
1)The voltage applied to the connecters (pins) when the key is on, the scooter is stopped and after the scooter has been driven.
2)The voltage applied to the connecters when the key is on, the scooter is stopped and before the scooter has been driven.
3)The voltage applied to the connectors when the scooter is being driven and is slowing down and braking.
4)The voltage applied to the connectors when the scooter is being driven but not slowing down.
I assume the voltage applied to the breke assembly is zero when the key is off. Correct? Also, could you please tell me what the resistance of the brake assembly should be and exactly how to measure it. For example: Which pins on the connectors to measure the resistance across. I believe I can then determine if the brake assembly needs to be replaced (at least electrically) or if there is a problem with the other wiring, controller or something else electrically.
Thanks!
