Hi Danielle, I reviewed the manual for the GE JP350 cook top. Pg. 6 states:

"The UNIT ON indicator light will glow when any surface unit is on."

If the burners are all set fully to the Off position, this lamp should be off. The off position requires that the knob be pressed in to change to Lo, High or any position between (once no longer in the Off position, depressing the knob to change it is not required). If you're able to change the from Off position without pressing the knob, there is an issue with the switch - that may be contributing to the problem.

The cooktop is a 208 / 240 volt appliance. This is the highest voltage in your home. Voltages as low as 50 in the right circumstances can kill, and for this reason repairs must be performed with safety as the first priority. The cooktop sensors have determined that a control is on. If they are indeed off, there is a problem with either the sensor or one (or more) of the controls. You may have luck by locating the circuit breaker or fuse (2 pole 40 amp breaker or (2) 40 amp fuses) and removing power from the cooktop for a minute or two, and then restore power. This would allow the electronics to reset and if a logic problem - it would clear. If there is a hard fault somewhere, the indication would return again.

You should have the cooktop professionally serviced if the indicator fails to extinguish. I hope this helps & good luck!

I have the same exact problem. I turned the breaker off for the cooktop and checked to make sure unit on light was off and it was. I turned breaker back on and the unit on light came back on even though all burners were off. I noticed that when I put on any burner that the unit on light glows bright. And when I turn any off l, the unit on light is on but is dim. Also the hot surface lights were all still working correctly when burners were on and shut off.

Hot surface light stays on on GE Profile Cooktop model JP989 and On does not light for left burners. This is only happening on left burners. Left front burner goes to high with any setting on the switch...

You could have a shorted burner, if it is not then you may have gotten a bad part.

always unplug electricity before attempting to repair on any electrical appliance

Knob is turned off but burner light is still on and burner area warm

If this is a glass top cooktop then yes the bunner light will still be on when you turn it off. Also the bunner area will be still be hot. The reason why the light is still on it is telling you that the bunner surfas is still over 95 degrees. Once the bunner area is under the 95 degrees the light will go off. It is a safty warning for people saying that the surface is still hot.

Good Luck and please rate 4 thumbs up for the free answer.

F113

I have the same problem. I had a repair man here and he said the main powder logic board ( WB23T10014) was the problem, it would cost $757 to fix. I ordered the board for $230 and installed it myself but still have the F113 problem.

My ge ceramic cooktop hot indicator light won't go out

I know that some people have mentioned that it looks like it's on, even when it's off. Depending on how the light hits it, it can look like it's glowing a bit. This would be normal.

Ge profile electric counter top stove

I did not receive instructions with my G E Profile cook top Model No. 80030750434). There is a build up on the elements which I am having problems removing. Should the top be scraped while the stove is hot or cold? What is the best cleaning product to use?

Ge profile ceramic electric cooktop

No recalls that I know of.  The switch for that burner has shorted and will need to be replaced.  It will be fine once it is repaired.

Remove ceramic cooktop

grouch, kill the power to the cooktop. You are going to have to remove the mounting brackets from undernieth and push the cooktop up. After it's up from it's installation position remove the side and back screws holding the top to the botom. Remove the burner knobs and it should come apart. Sounds like you have a bad burner switch.
