I am Using a D-link DIR-524 router, it has one internet port and 4 lan ports. All was working well till yesterday afternoon. Due to heavy rain the electricity was cut. When it resumed, i switched on my ISP modem and the dlink rojuter, and what i find that, the globe symbol does not light up. Due to which the ethernet light on the isp modem does not light up. I tried resetting both the devices several times but nothing worked. It was all perfect before the power went off that day. When i reboot or reset the Dlink router, all the lights including the globe symbol light up, but when i connect it to the isp modem via lan, the globe does not light up. Now i have to use the internet via lan and no wireless.. Please help

Perhaps the router is not broadcasting its SSID, therefore is invisible to would be tappers. Type 192.168.0.1 into a browser on a computer directly wired to the router, leave the username blank, if you havent changed it, the password is admin by default. Once logged in check that wireless is enabled and that you are broadcasting the ssid, you may want to setup/change security settings for the wireless connection at this time also.

SOURCE: DI-524 status led not blinking

Here are the instructions

  1. Make sure that you have a copy of the latest firmware and it has an *.exe file with it. Because the router's configuration page won't be available, you'll be needing the exe to some sort of force the firmware upgrade procedure.
  2. Unplug everything attached to your router except the power cable and LAN cable connected to your pc.
  3. Configure your TCP/IP with this info: IP:192.168.123.253, Default mask:255.255.255.0, Default Gateway:192.168.123.254 and DNS Server:192.168.123.254 (Use only 1 DNS server). Save this new configuration and reboot your pc.
  4. Unplug the power cable to your router as the pc reboots. When everything is up and running, plug the power cable. The status led will be flashing like crazy. It's normal.
  5. Use the exe file to upgrade your firmware. Make sure that the utility file (exe file) is able to recognize your router or else you won't be able to do a firmware upgrade. Now this may take a while, keep pressing the Refresh button to recognize your router. Once recognized you would see there 192.168.0.1 crash. Once you have this, you can now press the upgrade button.
  6. Wait for a while until the unit finishes the upgrade and once done, I think you have recovered the life of your router from the pits of hell. Hahahaha.
  7. You can now unplug the power of the router and restart your pc, see if everything is doing fine.
Hope this helps.

I have a DIR-600 router to connect my Cable modem and use wireless connection to connect to the internet. It was all working fine till my modem LAN port got damaged somehow.I have changed the modem and now...

Try following this order before you connect your computer to the router.
power off all your equipment (cable modem & router & your computer's wireless card)
first, power on the cable modem, give it some time to boot up and get an IP from the ISP, say 30 secs.
then, power on the router, again, give it some time to boot and obtain its internet IP from the cable modem
finally, enable wireless on you computer and connect to the router.

if this doesn't solve the problem try resetting the router to factory defaults by pressing the reset button at its back for about 10 seconds with the router powered on.

This your router's manual it may turn handy:

Hello, the 4 LAN ports on my D-Link router, model DIR-615, don't seem to be working. The lights are not coming on. This is the 1st time I'm trying to use those LAN ports so that I can connect my new...

It probably is your router that is the problem.
Disconnect its AC power, and reconnect it, to "reset" the router.

Also, try connecting your Blu-Ray player directly to your cable-modem (or DSL-modem), bypassing your router. Turn the modem off, and then turn on, and then turn your Blu-Ray player on, and it should be able to connect to the Internet (and NetFlix).

Try a different router.

DI-524 Wireless

Yes you can, it's easy.

1. Just connect one of the LAN ports of the DI-524 to a LAN port of your other router. Leave the DI-524 WAN port empty.
2. Disable the DHCP server on your DI-524, your other router will be the DHCP server.
3. Assign a static IP address to you DI-524, different from your other router's. Example, if your other router has 192.168.2.1, you may assign 192.168.2.4. Make sure that the IP address you assign is outside the DHCP range configured in your other router and that the subnet mask is identical on both.

How to port forward using Dlink DI-524 for Emule?

DMZ is a feature that is included on some routers but is not in Internet sharing software. A DMZ allows a single computer on your LAN to expose ALL of its ports to the Internet. When doing this, the exposed computer is no longer ?behind? the firewall. Port Forwarding vs DMZ A DMZ is far easier to set up than port forwarding but exposes your entire computer to the Internet. Sometimes TCP/IP applications require very specialized IP configurations that are difficult to set up or are not supported by your router. In this case, placing your computer in the DMZ is the only way to get the application working. Placing a computer in the DMZ should be considered ?temporary? because your firewall is no longer able to provide any security to it.
