Brothers Printer I have a Brothers DCP110C printer and i wouldn't print in black.. even do i change the ink? what should i do?

You need to call Brother at 1-877-brother and tell them your mfc is "missing black". They will tell you where to take it to get the print head replaced under Brothers' warranty. This is a VERY common problem and Brother will cover the cost to repair it.

This is normally caused by the ink drying in the head, you can try to clean it (Ink button and down to cleaning) if after 5-6 cleanings it still doesn't work they would probably have to replace the head on the machine

I am afraid you cannot print if (any) one of the cartridges is empty. Here is a screen capture from the properties of my MFC. At the bottom of the picture it says in French : Le MFC arrêtera l'impression Couleur/échelle de gris lorsqu'une ou plus des cartouches d'encre sera vide.

What it say in English is as follows: The MFC will stop printing in Color/Gray scale when one or more of the ink cartidges is empty.



Open the properties of the MFC. Under "Advanced" Tab Click the Printing Defaults at the bottom left. At the bottom of the window that pops up you will see the information that I translated for You.

You do not mention, what type of printer you have.
There is a way for print out in black only in Epson, Brothers, etc.

One of the problems, I think you are having, is that if any of the ink cartridges, are empty, the printer will not print. They must all have ink.

Post what type of printer you have and you might get steps on how to print black only.

When you go to print on your settings select print in black only. Did you buy Brother ink? Having old cartridges refilled or buying generic can pose a problem. I remember correctly brothers have a chip on the ink cartridge? I have gone through so many printers and its really not worth going any further, seems as though you have put sometime and effort in to this 100$ printer. Take 100$ & buy a kodak easy share all in one the ink is 15$ brand new.

tape up the side thats the outside theres a black bit inside just cover it up that will do it

i have a brother mfc 5440cn printer,error message says out of black ink,i replaced it,still says out of ink,i opened and checked micro switch,then bypassed micro switch,still reads out of black ink and wont go any further than that

If you look at your printers software, there may be an option to "Print greyscale" or Print B & W Only.

I have the same problem, does anyone know what I can do. I have tried cleaning the head but it doesn't work.
