2000 Triumph Sprint RS idles high

I have just bought a sprint rs with 27k on the clock. Runs fine but revs to high when you throttle off e.g. 2,200 revs when you pull the clutch in. If I select neutral, the revs drop down but once any gear is engaged and I move off I am back to 2,200 revs as a minimum. I have taken the aftermarket end can off and put the factory original back on but this has not helped. As you can imagine this makes the bike a pig to control in traffic. Can anybody help?

SOURCE: stuck in gear

ry useing blue LOCTITE on the pinch bolts and other fasteners to keep the shifter from vibrating loose again. I had the shift linkage vibrate loose on my Thruxton when it was new, I had to fix it on the road to get home.

SOURCE: have a 2002 triumph sprint st 955i, bike would

Hi, the problem lays with your side stand switch. This is designed to stop us riding off with the stand down. When the switch plays up the safety still works with the stand up. Try giving it a good clean and spray with WD40. It gets covered in crud from the chain lube.

SOURCE: clutch will not engage on trident 900

check that the actuator is releasing at the gearbox end!
as it could be loose or the shaft is binding up!
otherwise clutch needs stripping down & inspecting thrusts & friction plated for wear & burn marks[heat blueing] & that the metal plates are not warped!
also the pressure plate speings ma be week & all not equal tension
Cheers rob.

SOURCE: motor cuts out when gear engaged

Make sure you have your stand up before you put it in gear. Some bikes have a stand switch that doesnt allow the bike to be in gear while the stand is down. This switch may have been damaged when the bike fell and now be malfunctioning.

2011 Triumph Sprint GT high idle

Hey Graham..
Have you had it tuned up lately...if you had the valves adjusted, the intake valves are too tight...if no one has been adjusting your valves.. you might have an air leak..??
Does the engine rpm's "kinda float" around for a few seconds..idling high then settle back to normal..? .. YES. then its a classic symptoms of too tight intake valves.

My 2003 sprint rs doesn't hold revs when starting, i have to hold throttle for a few minutes? choke issue? thanks

Your Sprint has no choke as its injected and fuel is controlled by the ECM. So this said there are a few possible things to check.
1 TPS throttle position sensor voltage.
2 Barametric pressure sensor (MAP)
3 Do you use fuel containing ethanol, injected bikes hate the stuff, makes them hard to start.
Number 3 is an easy thing to try, 1 and 2 you will need to look at the ECM with a computer. Its very easy and the cable to connect to your laptop is about $14. OBD2 to USB cable.

Have a 2000 Sprint rs won't start have spark change fuel pump an stepper motor cps sensor has 564 ohms changed computer saloon

Two things fixed mine first a new battery, the Sprint needs a really good charged battery to start, not just an old charged battery. Even jump starting didn't work for me. Second non ethanol fuel, these engines hate ethanol.

Couple of questions from a new RS owner

#1 As these are an injected bike they do not need to be blipped on start as it reprograms the ECU to think that the slight blip setting is the normal closed according to the computer. You may need to get it reset at your dealer unless you have an OBDII or a Triumph GameBoy. #2 Change out the oil to a semi synth. Your choice on brands. I'm not starting You'll find that it will improve the shifting as they aren't the smoothest with old oil. I use Motul 15-40 semi synth myself FWIW I change mine every 5000 kilometres (about 6 months) but go on k's travelled and not duration myself.
