Hi,
My olympus DS-2300 seems to be plugging into the computer okay, and when I check the properties in the device manager, all indications are that everything is fine. but the Olympus software won't detect the recorder. I have windows XP professional edition version 5.1 (service pack 2) and I heard that there is a compatibility problem...any advice?
Should be no compatibility problem.. not with xp... but you can check two different things... first check the "safely remove hardware" icon usually beside the time in the system tray. when you click on it once, it should say safely remove usb mass storage device drive *: (star representing drive letter), if no letter comes up then no drive letter is assigned and will have to go thru drive letter assignment.
the next thing would be in device manager in system properties... it should be recognized as usb mass storage device and disappear if you unplug your device. if not then the driver may need updating through microsoft
i would call Oly tech support so they can walk you thru the getting your device to work properly

You were right on...it was assigned to a drive that was already in use as a shared data drive. When I reassigned it to another drive, it solved the problem.
Many thanks!

Device stopped being recognized. I have completely uninstalled the program and resinstalled with no luck.
