Marantz PMD660 Digital Voice Recorder Logo

Hi, I'm having trouble with my marantz recorder. I've reached the 999 track limit, but despite deleting older tracks it still won't let me record. The solution must be something basic I've overlooked, or a setting has sneakily been changed that I'm unaware of. Can you please help? Cheers, Joe

You can format the CF card to overcome this problem.
Select 'Format' from Edit menu.
Push and hold the 'Shift' button and push the Menu button. 'Trk Erase' will appear. Push the >> (Double arrow) key until you get 'Format' on the screen.
Press 'Enter' and when it asks 'OK?', press Enter again. Screen will display 'Executing' and finally 'Completed'.
Push the 'Stop' after that.
NOTE: Deleting Tracks/Files will not reset track counter.

Since you have reached the 999 track limit, it is possible your CF card may have been corrupted.
On page 28 of your manual you should find the instructions for formatting your CF card.
"How to Format a CF Card."
This may get you going again.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help Brian, I've found that if I delete the most recent tracks then it lets me record, but I always thought it would be able to go back and fill in the blanks (of which there are 500+!). I'm still able to access the files via USB and transfer them across. Does this info shed any further light on the situation?

That still sounds like a badly formatted or corrupted CF card Joe.
You could try moving your 500 files first to your PC to backup the card,
then format the card using the Marantz device itself, not the PC.
Then copy all the files back again to a nice cleanly formatted card the way the Marantz likes it.
    You never know.
    Brian.

Hi folks :-) I'm affraid that we have started up wrong, but I hope we can fix it ! Problem: A band, we've made a que-track (everybody's playing and singing at the same time) now we've...

Real musicians do change tempo throughout a song, so its not necessarily a bad thing. As long as you like the sound it doesn't matter if you don't stick rigidly to a fixed tempo. Unfortunately you won't be able to fix the tempo after the initial recording so you'll have to live with it or re-record. If you need a click track to record along to, try recording yourself hitting drum stick together along to the already recorded track. As a human you can track small tempo changes much easier than a computer. If you need to create a count in, just copy and paste a section of this click track to the start of the track. I hope this makes sense!

Hi,
It sounds like you haven't followed the last step to the burning procedure. All you need to do once you've completed burning your disc is to Finalize the disc. Read below why you need to finalize as well as the steps to follow in order to finalize the disc.
Hope this helps ;)
How to Finalize Finalizing is writing the TOC (table of contents) on a disc so a CD player can recognize the number of tracks, the total time for each track, and their location on the disc. A recorded disc must be finalized to playback on a standard CD player. Once finalized a CD-R disc can be played on CD players that support CD-R playback. CD-RW discs can only be played on CD players that support CD-RW playback. Consult your CD player owner's manual to confirm supported formats. Finalizing is necessary to: • be able to play a recorded CD-R or CD-RW disc on a CD player • prevent further recording on a disc • avoid erasing tracks on a CD-RW disc • record text information onto a disc you record Notes: • A finalized CD-R disc can never be recorded onto again. • A finalized CD-RW disc can be unfinalized for more recording. • The CDR300 can play back unfinalized CD-R or CD-RW discs. • SYNC REC+FINAL mode automatically finalizes.
Here are the steps in order to Finalize your disk
1 Push Stop. The display shows the number of tracks and their total playing time. 2 Push FINALIZE. FINALIZE is displayed for about 3 seconds.

I have a de recorder 4050 when I try to put a track of a vinylalbum on cd, it stops after 20 seconds what can I do about it?

YOU mean "CD" recorder, right? A recorder will typically stop recording in the extended absence of audio.

And the track that is recorded - what does it sound like? If it's silence then you need to track your source back to its origin through the undefined electronics and find out why the signal isn't getting through to the recorder.

I have purchased two ARK IV white elliptical Stylus replacement needles for my turntable and I am not getting the life out of these items, despite very limited play time. Seems like they just wear down...

What's the turntable? Skipping across the record would be a (mal)function of tracking and anti-skating. The recommended tracking force for this stylus os 3.0 grams. I've been out of the vinyl groove for some years now but I remember my Shure M95 tracking in the range of 1-1.5 g. Railroad spikes track at 3.0. Is this for 'scratching' or whatever it is they call that noise?

My marantz is recording 5 minute tracks and then opening up a new track ... I want it to record onto one track until I have completed

There are two settings that are important to solve what might be perceived as "irregular" recording processes. The first is to reset "Auto Track" to OFF and the second is to set manual Track to Off. This will result in a more normal recording experience.
