The lens error indicates that the movement is inhibited possibly by sand or grit. It also may be misaligned or an internal component has failed. Here are a few links to some other things to try. With newer cameras I am usually hesitant to suggest these options since they include some more extreme procedures that may cause further damage if not done correctly, but since yours is probably no longer under warranty, they may save you an expensive repair bill. An older Canon camera is used to demonstrate these procedures but, the lens structure of these compact cameras is the same so the examples do apply to this unit. These procedures are effective about 60% of the time. Click on or copy and paste the links into your browser.

When i go to turn the camera on it says "lens error, restart camera" I haven't had issues till today and it worked just fine yesterday, how do i get this to work?

Try to hold the camera with your right hand with its lens facing the ground. Now, while pushing the on/off button, tap or hit the camera's base on your left palm; do this several times. Chances are, there is a tiny grain of sand or dust build up on the lens' base. It would also help if while turning it on with the lens facing the ground, try to shake it with both hands. Please let me know how this goes.

Canon PowerShot SX 100 IS lens error

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Lens error, restart camera message

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Camera was dropped-- "Lens error-restart camera" message

If it is still under warranty , please repair it.
If it is out of warranty. Try to get a quote, it the quote is more than 50% of original value , forget it.
For digital camera's they die like flies. New ones are better and cheaper anyway.
