Im having the same probz, got a Hp Pavilion Vista using mobile pre amp usb when i record using a condenser mic XLR nothing is picked up from the channels in Cubase or Nuendo. Im trying to record vocals but the Mic is not picked up and i cannot hear myself in the headphones and it wont transfere to cubase.

It has worked before when i had a desktop, but this only worked with a separate m-audio sound card inside the desktop and i plug in the output jax leads from the desktop (soundcard) to the m-audio usb pre amp

Is this why it is not working for the laptop do i need a Jax connection and where is this audacity

I want to use my rode NT1-A on my laptop. how do i do so?

you need a recording interface (with phantom power if the mic requires that - most condensor mics need phantom power) to go from the mic to the interface, then to the computer. There are many USB recording interfaces - some easy plug and play interfaces include:

http://www.amazon.com/ART-Project-Series-Microphone-Preamp/dp/B000K6B59Y/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1334413603&sr=8-8

Then on your computer you need an application such as audacity (if windows), cubase, sonar, logic, pro tools, or any other audio recording app that will allow you to record and edit tracks. From there, you can install many different plugins or apps that can process the audio and add effects to the tracks like reverb, delay, distortion, etc.

I have set-up M-Audio microphone recently but I can't seem to figure out HOW to begin using it. I've tried every drop down and clicked every recording button while I was using the software. . . is there...

Without knowing your setup or the mic model, my guess is that you need to run a phantom power supply to the mic to get it to function. This is done either by using an outboard analog mixing console or mic preamp with a phantom power switch, or using an inline phantom power supply. The microphone plugs into the mixer or mic pre with the phantom turned on, and then into your DAW system.
The phantom power works with condensor microphones like the one you have. It sends a 48v signal to the microphone element, which in turn energizes the element and makes it function. Dynamic mics, like a Shure SM 58 for example, do not need the phantom power and will even ignore it if run on a phantom powered channel. condensor mics however must have it to function, otherwise there will not be any sound. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Recording Spikes

Give yourself enough headroom before clipping by preadjusting the recording volume control. Try recording the loudest passage and making note of what your VU meter is indicating. Adjust your volume control accordingly. Try to maintain a uniform distance from the microphone and use a windscreen. There is a great site at www.dancetech.com with links to other sites with all the info you will probably need. Hope this helps.

No sound through M-Audio preamp and condenser mic

Hi micoach
The condenser mic you are using requires phantom power for it to operate. Pay to check that that is turned on m-audio. Just to be sure.you say you can get sound off the m-audio headphone socket. Just need to check that. You will need to check that you have selected the device for recording from the preferences--audio I/O options menu within audacity. Perhaps check these things and get back to me here if you still have problems.I can go into more detail with you.

Usb mic in cubase sx3

you have a pci audio card so maybe you can add an extra input device by going to devices panel or press F4 shortcut.
and choose your usb mic.
also you can check your wavelab audio inputs. they must have the same config so if you can record woth your usb mic and your poci card in wave lave you must be able to do so in cubase sx

hope it works

M-udio usb microphone

You should be able to plug your headphones into your computer and get sound that way, assuming your USB mic is plugged in. If the mic is a USB - direct mic (that is, if it is a microphone with a USB cable directly attached), you will only be able to use it with your PC or laptop. If the device is a mic pre-amp (with an XLR or 1/4" connector that your mic PLUGS INTO), then you should be able to use your microphone with any device that will accept that connection type.
