Error (5800) My Cannon PXIMA MP130 kept showing the message "Check Printer Error (5800)" even after I have cleaned the waste ink reservoir on the right side of the printer. Suggestions given for the same problem on MP150 model did not work. Help me solve the problem as we have no cannon service center in Myanmar for printers. Percy

"The waste ink absorber is almost full" message?

This applies to the CANON PIXMA MP130 and other ink-jets made by Canon/Pixma.

According to the user's manual, "Ink used to clean the print head is absorbed by the waste ink tank. When this message is displayed, the waste ink tank needs to be replaced, or the machine requires maintenance". There is no information about how to replace or empty the waste ink tank.

In any case, you can try the following to clear up the error, but eventually you'll need the waste tank to be emptied or replaced. And as far as I know, you can't find the replacement parts to buy, nor the instructions to empty the waste tank.

Turn on your MP130.
1) After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan or Menu-Copy-Scan-Copy-Copy in some models, it depends on the date it was produced)
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Enter NVRAM ACCESS
4) Select SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0
5) Select OK
6) Keep selecting OK untill you leave the TEST MODE

Then turn it OFF and again ON. Check if the error message is still there.
The following is taken from the Canon website, regarding this specific error:

"Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk."

As I mentioned before, I have not found any way or procedure to empty or replace the waste ink absorber nor the necesary replacement part.

Message Waste Ink Absorber is showing. Whatv is this

Two possible ways to remove this error from your printer. First, is to clean the absorber pads that are full of waste ink. Second, is to reset the printer to clear the error and let the printer print again.

Clean the two absorber pads.
Two absorber pads located on the right side of the printer, under the ink cartridges when it is resting.

1. Turn on the printer.
2. Lift the top cover to expose the ink cartridges. As soon as you lift up the cover the cartridge carrier will move away from its home base.. Then the pads will be exposed. It will be a dirty job so be prepared with your tweezer and extra cloth for some ink spill.
3. Using the tweezer, lift up the pads sitting on a rubber retainer. The pads can be easily clean by placing it under a running water. Warm water will be nice to remove the ink from the pads.
4. After this, you can now return the pads. However, the problem will not be solve especially if you are currently facing the waste ink absorber full error or E-27.

Use a reset procedure to clear the error in your printer
1. Turn on the printer
2. Press the MENU key
3.
Press SCAN button
4.
Press the COPY button
5. Press the SCAN button then wait until it enters the service mode.
6.
Select NVRAM ACCESS further OK
7.
Select SET ABS-M LEVEL and set value equal to zero
8.
Select SET ABS-R LEVEL (if any) and is set to zero.
9.
Turn off the printer
Do this as many times if the first attempt didn't work until it fully reset.

I hope that helps

I HAVE A CANNON PIXMA MP170 AND IT KEEPS SHOWING THE MESSAGE WASTE INK FULL & CODE 5800 ... BUT I NEED TO USE THE PRINTER URGENTLY... PLEASE ADVISE.... MANY THANKS..

Hi:
The problem here is the waste ink pads are full, these pads are located at the lock posistion to the far right where the units cartridge holder goes when you power down the unit and on start up. The way to solve this to to have the pads replaced, they are used to collect the waste ink the printer uses to clean itself when starting up, These pads usually take a long time to fill up, so either you do alot of printing or you hve used Non Canon inks or generic refill cartridges in the past, these are not good for your printer as some of these types of inks are either to thin or to thick and fill the pads up prematurely..Keep in mind to always use recommended guine ink cartridges you may save a little now with ink refill cartridges but in the long run your printer will eventually give out.

I am getting an 5800 error

Ink Absorber Replacement OptionsThis printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible. Press the <OK> button to release the error. You will still be able to print for a short period. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk
