Feed Dogs Kenmore 158.19802

Kenmore Convertible Model 1980. (Year 1981). Sewing material won't advance because the feed dog doesn't lower enough to go below surface of the needleplate even though it does rise and descend appropriately. The stitch length controller works okay to control fore and aft movement. What adjustment is used to set the feed dog to the correct up and down level setting? Please, and thank you.

I think the feed dog lever needs to be positioned on the right.

Feed dogs on Kenmore 158.17810 Sewing material won't advance because the feed dog doesn't lower enough to go below surface of the needleplate even though it does rise and descend appropriately.

You machine most likely has not had a thorough oiling, cleaning, and adjustment for a long time. The old oil dries out, turns to glue, and moving parts no longer move like they should.

If your machine is mechanical (not computerized):

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

It was working now it seems to be frozen the needle part wont move

Singer model no 9022 feeder feet does not move material thread bunges under material

Check that the stitch length is set high enough that the feed dogs will actually advance the fabric. Setting the stitch length too low will cause the machine to basically sew in place.

Also, check that the feed dogs have not been "dropped" to allow darning or free motion quilting. Dropping the feed dogs lowers them so they will not rise above the needleplate and will not grip nor move the fabric.

If your machine is mechanical (not computerized), it may need a good cleaning and oiling. If the old oil has solidified, it could be preventing the feed dogs from moving like they should.

Feed dogs lowered can't raise material not feeding thru

Is your machine mechanical? If so, sounds like the feed dogs are stuck in the lowered position. Needs good cleaning and oiling.

White model 445 material won't feed?????

Hi Jason. I wonder if you have your feed dogs lowered. It's near the bobbin area.

Here's a pdf of your manual. It talks about "drop feed" on book page 19

Good luck

Material won't feed through on kenmore 17600 sewing machine

Take out the material, take off the foot and needle. Stick your finger on the feed dogs and hand turn the hand wheel like sewing. Does the feed dog come slightly above the surface of the needle plate? If it does.... tighten the presser foot tension.

If it doesn't locate the switch that drops the feed dog. Make sure it's in up position.

If neither of those solutions work. Remove the needle plate and see if the feed dog or mechanism that runs it is broken

Good luck

Model 385-15343600 Serial 71073690 The stitches are very, very small all the time regardless which of the tension used (bobbin and needle).

The stitch length dial needs to be set to a lower number (number of stitches per inch) to give you longer stitches. The tensions do not regulate the stitch length, the feed dogs regulate the distance the material is advanced between stitches. Also, make sure the pressure foot is applying enough pressure to keep the material in firm enough contact with the feed dogs.

Kenmore model 158 15510 will not catch the material to advance it while sewing. The catch plate does not go up high enough.

Feed dogs.

Check the manual for how to engage/raise the feed dogs.

Or, it could be the machine needs cleaning.

Open the bobbin area and the throat plate (plate under the presser foot) and clean with a soft brush or cotton swab.

Dropping Feed dogs on kenmore model 19233

Remove extension table/accessory box by gentle pulling it away from machine. You are left with just the free arm. In the back of the free arm, lower left corner, you will fine the feed dog lever. Push the leaver to the right to lower the feed dog.Instructions for lowering and raising the feed dog are on page 48 of your owner's manual. Good luck!

My fabric won't advance.

Hi Jodyk...Remove your flatbed so you can access your bobbin area. Open the cover of the bobbin area. The shiny/bright components consist of the Bobbin, which snaps into the Shuttle Hook, which is contained in the Race. Immediately right of the Race is a pewter/matte silver colored lever. Press the lower portion of the lever to raise the Feed Dogs. Pressing the upper portion drops the Feed Dogs, and is commonly used to accomplish free-hand applique work......good luck my friend.
