I was attempting to install a new stereo in my 2000 taurus. it requires to an adapter to put the new stereo in. i got the new adapter and stereo in *kinda* but decided i didnt really know what i was doing, so took the adapter and new stereo out and put the factory stereo back in. I reconnected all the wires and everything correctly, but when i drove my car later, the stereo didnt work, the power windows didnt work, the power locks didnt work and the spedemeter was way off and sometimes didnt work at all. I have no idea what i did. Help?

How do I fix the clock display on my 1999 Pontiac Sunfire?

It appears to be that the radio clock display has malfunctioned, and is due for a replacement radio, which could be an aftermarket or oem radio, maybe found at a junk yard.

Tools required for oem replacement radio, torx keys set.

Before working on the radio or other electronics, disconnect the battery cables with 8mm wrench.

Replacing the oem radio is much easier, if you obtain oem radio, compared to aftermarket radio, due to being direct fit.

The radio is same for 1995 to 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and the Chevy Cavalier, regardless of sub models, such as SE,GT, VL,VLX,Z24. etc.

Parts needed for the the aftermarket radio install :Stereo assembly, stereo wiring harness adapter, radio antenna adapter, and dash install kit.wiring diagram for the wire colors / functions, along with tools, such as torx key set, screwdrivers, wire crimper, wire stripper, double ended wiring connectors, hair dryer.

The oem stereo removal video is for the 2000 to 2005 Sunfire / Cavalier, but are the same or very similar procedures.

F5TF-19B132-BA Ford Radio Pin out

The stereo pin layout can be obtained from the car dealership, also a repair manual should have the stereo wiring harness layout in it , the stereo harness adapter for installing non oem stereo, found at the local auto parts store will come with the wiring layout, wires are color coded too, sometimes the stereo harness or stereo harness adapter will have small writing on the wires itself, showing you what that wire is for, and where it should connect.

Basically it comes down to, obtaining the stereo wiring layout, read the description on the wires, and properly connect them together, then solder the wires or crimp them, I like to solder mine with soldering wire for electronics, and put shrink tubes to protect the wires, put the shrink tubes on the wires before soldering together, and ensure the shrink tube is the proper size awg wire gauge.

You will also need, aftermarket face adapter kit and antenna adapter, if installing aftermarket stereo.

Hope this helps and enjoy the stereo :)

I want to connect an mp3 player but i only have a cd player, is there a line-in jack somewhere in the car or behind the stereo

No jack on factory stereo. You'll have to use either a cassette adapter or an FM adapter; both plug into your regular mp3 line out. Cassette adapters are not as reliable but cheap and don't use power, while FM adapter requires power (from 12V or battery) and is more expensive.

2000 Ford Taurus - Installed a new radio and used the Meta 99-5716 install kit with wiring harness. After install, radio, pwr windows, pwr locks, dome light, windshield wipers, and speedomoter have stopped...

Sounds like you have blown fuses which could have happened if you accidently short circuted something while wiring up the new stereo. Check your fuses to see if any of them are blown.

Installing after market stereo

Dave,

You will need to go buy a wiring harness adapter from your local Walmart (usually cheapest there) or Local Electronics place (ie Best Buy). The wire harness that goes out from the radio goes into the Adapter and the adapter plugs into the car harnesses. Also these Adapters come with the wiring diagrams for your vehicle. They typically run 10 - 15 bucks depending on where you get them. Thanks for using FixYa!

Sincerely,

JC
