There should not be a fire hazard but you should be concerned that the freezer could break down if it is not allowed to vent the heat it produces. The freezer is not intended nor designed to be enclosed The manual must indicate specifications for minimum clearances for rear, top and sides, and may even be indicated on the big yellow sticker on the inside of the door. The clearances must be respected or again, the unit will fail, and the warranty may be voided in such cases.

Rule of thumb, if you lay a frig/freezer on side let sit upright at new location for 24 hours before plugging it in.

SOURCE: i had to lay down

Hi,
Here is a tip that I wrote on moving refrigerators...if you did not do it thisway then you may well have ruined a perfectly good refrigerator.

Moving a Refrigerator What is thebest way

If you already have moved it wrong, you can sometimes get it working byplugging it in and unplugging it a number of times with an hour or so inbetween.

Not freezing

There are many reasons why is not working. 1.if the compressor is not running, Relay or overload burn, they are attached to the side of the compressor 2, thermostat may not be working. 3. if all of the part i mentioned are working fine your compressor may need to be replace.4 if the compressor runs but still don't get cool, there is a internal gas leak inside the freezer. The only way to find out theses issues, is by having the necessary tools and experience.

Freezer stopped working.

It might be the compressor making the noise. If it is,the compressor will start/stop frequently. This means that it is tripping on overload due to mechanical damage.Only way to solve this prolem is to replace the compressor (if the freezer is still in a good condition).

We lost power due to storm since restored and now the compressor starts but stops within 30 seconds and does this over and over

It sound like your compressor is in trouble, I would try and see what amp. the compressor is running in this 30 seconds. If it is over the name plate requirement I would try to change a 3 in 1 electrical component to see wheather it helps. Check your amp. at all time.Hope this help.God Bless

Freezer compressor runs steady & getting -30F

You probably have a defective thermostat or sensor for reading the temperature.

Frigidaire Upright not cooling

Not enough information but  if you are refering to the compressor as the black housing below, it seems that the compressor is either seized or burnt out.
