After details on the power cable, and data cable, the Optical Drive is the first drive listed.

Your SATA motherboard connector may differ in appearance. Still has an L-shape in it, though.

(Hold the SATA cable connector in your hand, look at the connector.
If you turn a capital L to the LEFT, and turn OVER, that is the correct position to install the cable, in.

SOME SATA cable connectors have a Lock on them.
Some are like a tab you press down, others are like a small 'bulb, that you press down on. Suggest use your thumb.

Depress Lock to Install cable, and to Remove cable.

Between a SATA data cable's connector, and a SATA power cable's connector; a SATA power cable connector is Larger.

SATA data cable connector has 7-pins.
SATA power cable connector has 15-pins.

Depress the Drive Release Latch, slide the drive towards the Back of the computer, lift up slightly to remove SATA data cable, and SATA power cable; THEN remove optical drive.

The Harddrive is a SATA unit.

Uses a SATA data cable, and a SATA power cable.

SATA data cable, and connector on motherboard, example;

Between the SATA data cable connector, and the SATA power cable connector; the SATA data cable connector is the shorter of the two in width.
SATA data cable connector has 7-pins.
SATA power cable connector has 15-pins.

The connector end used on the harddrive side, and optical drive side, (CD/DVD drive), is usually a 90 degree Bent Elbow.
The connector end that plugs into the motherboard, is a Straight connector.

NOTE* Color of connectors does NOT matter.
Most of the time the SATA data connectors on the motherboard, are different colors.

This is to help discern what number of SATA data connector it is.
Four SATA data connectors on the motherboard?

SATA 1, SATA 2, SATA 3, and SATA 4;
Or:
SATA 0, SATA 1, SATA 2, and SATA 3?

SATA 0, or SATA 1, is usually reserved for the Harddrive.
The Primary harddrive with the Operating System on it.
(Unless you have harddrives set in a RAID configuration)

DOES NOT MATTER WHAT SATA DATA CONNECTOR, you plug into, on the motherboard.

Want to plug the harddrive into SATA 3, or SATA 4?
Go ahead.
NO matter what SATA connector on the motherboard that you plug into, BIOS will find the harddrive.

Note the L-shape in the connector.
Has to line up on the L-shape on the harddrive, optical drive, or motherboard, SATA data connector.

There is usually a lock on the connector. This you may not see.
Sometimes there is a little 'bump' on the connector. Depress with the thumbnail to install the cable, or remove.

NOTE*
IF, your SATA harddrive has a provision for plugging in a SATA power cable, AND a 4-pin Peripheral power cable; ONLY plug the SATA power cable in.

Using BOTH types of power cables will BURN the harddrive up.
May not happen right away, but I assure you it will happen.

If your CD / DVD is powered on Ok then you are missing the data cable connection which will be either a SATA (small connector) or IDE (much larger connector) both of which plug in to your motherboard....Look at the CD / DVD and try to identify which type of connector you are missing then look for an unconnected cable of the same type within your case.

If you have the SATA power and SATA data cable connected and the drive still isn't working, the drive is bad. Get a replacement.

Question is vague. Are you replacing a drive or building a new system? SATA drives have a dedicated plug on the Mother Board. Of course you already know you can't replace an IDE with a SATA without an adapter (Ebay has them for about $8) or the Bios is incompatible. The power is on the Motherboard and does not have a connector from the power supply like an IDE has.

I know what is problem,some of mother is made only SATA HDD data transfer rate 1.5 GB per second.Now all are SATA HDD data read rate 3 up to g GB per second .Follow the instruction label on the hard drive.
If you use your Motherboard 3GB data read hard drive you can customise setting jumper source of data rate 1.5 then MSI Motherboard detect SATA hard drive.

Sata drives are backwards compatable so should work no problem but some drives have a jumper that needs to be reset ,check the website for your drive.

The ECS PM800-M2 only supports SATA 1.0 hard drives. If you are using a newer SATA 3.0 hard drive, there is a jumper on the hard drive which has to be set to SATA 1.0 in order for the VIA 8237R chipset southbridge (which Is on your ECS PM800-M2) to recognize the newer SATA 3.0 hard drives. This Is applicable to all motherboards with the Viatech PM800 / 8237R chipsets. Note: the location for the SATA 1.0 / 3.0 jumper varies on each brand of hard drives. Also check If SATA Is enabled In the BIOS and select IDE mode.

Normally when u purchase the SATA DVDRW, they also provides u the SATA data cable...

Installation is very simple, just plug the data cable and power cable, power on your pc. That's all.

- sata has no master
- i presume u want the OS on the ide drive, and not just that the ide drive to have "C" assigned to it! So : 1 - U can copy the data form the ide to the sata, and then reinstall the OS on the ide (note: the OS will start up a bit slower do to the slower ide drive !!!) and so it will become the C drive ! And u can assign to the sata what ever letter u wish...

2- if u don't want to reinstall the os u can do a copy of the os and put it on the ide drive(not just copy the files !! it will not work!!!). U cold use clonezilla for example... But probably the first method wold be safer ....
