I formatted my garmin sat nav which deleted everything off they sat nav how do i reload all new maps back on it. I downloaded all they new maps but can t get them to go on sat nav now

If you have a Garmin model with Lifetime Maps or Lifetime Maps & Traffic (LM or LMT) you should go to garmin.com and download & install Garmin Express. Then, connect the GPS to the USB port and tell the program to check the GPS for updates. Otherwise, you may have to buy a mapset if it has somehow been deleted. Call your GPS maker's support before buying anything as maps are not usually returnable.

Some Sat Navs can't convert, If it's bought & set to UK & Ireland maps, then you are stuck. 2nd thing , even if you can use Europe Maps on your Sat Nav, you still will be unable, to load USA maps.

Get your money back and spend it on a good road map. I use the latest Philips navigator UK map, it never fails and keeps my old brain functioning.

I have a friend who uses a satellite navigation system. Having met up at a place, I knew he asked me how to get to somewhere local, I said go back the way you came and at the big church, turn left - I didn't see any church he said, I was following Sat Nav - that is the point without sat nav we become aware of what is around us so we learn our way, even in strange places, by looking at the sun we can work out whether we need to go east west, etc..

Copy the new maps onto the SD card be sure that the card has enough space on it. ( you might need a SD Card reader ) copy the old maps onto your PC before deleting the SD card, copy all the data into the root folder of your sat nav. hope this helps

You can update mapping software on most sat nav units to take into account alterations to the road network. Either from your PC, in the case of portable sat navs; or via your phones GPRS connection, in the case of phone models. Always check the level of mapping that comes with your equipment in the first place. Is it up-to-date?
. Every couple of years Garmin will release a map update, which you can get on DVD or download - you've got to pay for it though!

you will need to update your GPS device , go to garmin's website and look for the new maps for your device.

Not quite 100% sure what your description of the problem is saying.

If it isn't the auto shutoff but is when you tell it to follow a route or other function the problem is most likely a corrupted map or part of the map.
If it is brand new don't mess with it take it back. If it were out of warrenty you would have to reset or reload the map. It's not a major problem but for a brand new unit it just shouldn't happen. Garmin makes pretty good units so don't get discouraged by one being wonky.

In the box you should have a backup cd for this instance, just plug the sat nav into your computer with usb and run the cd

You have not only erased all of your maps but you have also erased all of the internal software that was a part of your Garmin. I do not recall seeing anything on the web site that resolves your issue. If you can get a hold of another 205 perhaps you can make an image file of its software and then transfer that over to yours.
