A linksys router password should contain at least 8 different characters. You have to put one or more character to change or put your password as authentication. If you have a further query then let me know. Thanks for using FixYa.

Password problems.

Depending on the type of router, you could have various defaults set, if you never changed them.
You can press the reset button somewhere located on the router itself, using a pen/pin/pencil, and then google your brand of router asking what the default password is.
If it is a Linksys, you could google "Linksys default password" or "Linksys default login" for example.

I have my wii all set up except for the internet. a guy came out & fixed my wireless but now its asking fr a password & i dont know what that would be... i thought maybe on the back of my router...

If it's a Linksys wireless router, then the default password is "admin" in small letters (no caps). Don't worry about the username, it won't require it, until you get into the settings. If it's a Belkin, then Google: Belkin default password, and it will then give you a list of default passwords, depending on your model type. Good luck.

I'm trying to to use the wifi but it is asking for a wpa password and i can't find the wpa password

Perform a Linksys reset

The easiest method of resetting your Linksys router's password is to reset your router back to the default factory settings. This is done by simply holding down the reset button located on the back of the unit for at least 30 seconds. Once the router has been reset, it must be reconfigured. Using your web browser go to URL address http://192.168.1.1. You will then be prompted to login to your router. A log-in screen asking for the password will automatically appear. At this time enter the default password "admin", in lower case letters into the password field. The username field may be left blank at this time. (Note: both the default username and default password are set to "admin" on some of the newer Linksys router models).

Router setup
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

How will I change the username and the password of the router? Because my friend is trying to connect to our internet here at home, but she can't connect because the router is asking for a password...

On your computer (the one connected to the router) open in browser http://192.168.1.1 and log into router's configuration page ... there on the "wireless" section you will find "Wireless security" ... there you can set up the password.
If you don't have access to the configuration page or you have problems setting up the password, you can always reset the router to it's factory settings. To do so you have to find a slightly hidden reset button on your router and push it (with a needle or something).
For more details read the manual at: http://homedownloads.cisco.com/downloads/userguide/E1000_V10_UG_USA_NC-WEB.pdf

Have a router but not software for linksys, have reset the router but don;t know how to put in new password

Welcome to fixya

No proplem you don't need a software cd to secure the router. Please follow the steps

Click the below link
http://192.168.1.1

Now it will ask for username and password

Enter username = ( blank) and password = admin
If you can't login using this credentials then you will have to reset the router

If you logged in . Then click on Wireless > Wireless security

On this screen select

Security Mode : WPA Personal
WPA Algorithm : TKIP
WPA shard Key : "enter a password here"
Group Key Renewal : set to default

Click on save settings. After that restart router .
Now your wireless network is secured and you will have to type the WPA shared key inorder to connect to router when it prompts

Thanks
