Hello, welcome to FixYa.
I understand based on your post you have the Whirlpool GBD307PDS09 double oven with the "fading display" scenario, correct ?
The issue with these displays is they can lose their intensity over time because of the fluorescent tube technology they use, hence the only remedy is to rebuild the control/display kit...the display only is not available.
**For the display/timer your only option (the only one I'm aware of)... it's the one I recommend as opposed to replacing the entire unit, is to have the existing display and control rebuilt...the down side is this will require the parts to be removed and sent away**
Here you'll find all the info pertaining to this option by clicking on the link's I've provided below. The first is the Whirlpool visitors site, the second is a list of timer numbers they do (yours is 8302319)

Hello again,
thank you for replying, I'm glad you did. I think I may have misunderstood...slightly. While these display's do have a habit of fading, it may simply be the transformer if it only occurs during heating sessions.
I would slide the oven out far enough so you can access the top of the oven and test the transformer and follow the wires back to the clock/display to insure they are secure...heck for what it's worth (usually around $25) I'd change the transformer since as you describe it, (fails when hot...sounds like an open winding) it is quite likely the culprit. (if it test ok it is the display though)
Below is a good link for explaining it's principles and testing the transformer...starting at about 2:30 of the video will show how to test the primary and secondary windings, but you watch the entire video if you like.

Let me know how it goes or if you need any further assistance.
**Please insure the power is off before servicing though...safety first**

As I mentioned the display will come back when oven is turned off and cooled down.
When the display returns we can turn oven back on and the display will stay bright for the
duration of baking cycle. The display may fade again when a new cycle is started.
The display does not stay off or black. It does return to normal indications.
Do you still believe the display needs rebuilding ?
Macmarkus,
After sending you the second comment, I found the Service Technicians schematics and troubleshooting steps supplied by Whirlpool. I did check the primary and secondary winding resistances and both were not measuing expected values. Primary measured 58 ohms, should have measured 75 to 95 ohms. Secondary measured 2.5 ohms, should have measured < 1 ohm. I think I will change the transformer first, before changing display. The transformer value are off just enough that makes me suspect a problem. Thanks for your help.
Phil
Both solutions were valuable. I performed service technican checks and found enough information to diagnose the problem. Thanks.
