Dell XPS420 Freezes after being in sleep mode

My XPS freezes during the sleep mode. It appears to go into sleep mode fine, with no obvious problems, but when i try to "wake it up", the entire system is frozen and I have to reboot to get things moving again. very annoying. Is there a fix for this?
Thanks.

Is there a reason why you cant turn off sleep mode and just let the screen saver kick in? You can do this by right clicking on your desktop and goto properties. Then ScreenSaver, then click on power.
Change these values to never and then go back and set your screen saver...

Hope this Helps...

My dell xps 210 freezes while in use the longer in use the more frequently it freezes. I have to do a hard reboot, when it freezes.

This can be a cooling problem. You should heck your fan is working properly and the air is circulating correctly in the case.
This can also happen if you upgraded some components. Maybe the power of you power supply can be not sufficient for system use.

My dell xps 420 will not power on. power light

Hi
If your system's power light blinks amber, it means the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.

Do the following to tackle this issue:
  • If applicable, make sure that the voltage selection switch which is at the rear of your system matches AC power in your area.
  • Ensure that the power cable is securely connected to system board.

Here are links with pictures to assist you in opening the system and reconnecting the internal cables.
Please follow safety instructions before you perform these tasks. Here is a link, which gives you complete safety instruction.

Next is to see the system board design. Here is the link.

Here you will find complete manuals for further research

If this does not resolve the issue, then the motherboard or processor is faulty and you need to get it replaced, so if your system is within warranty why pay extra, get it replaced from Dell. Else contact a local tech and he'll help you out.

Please rate as per the assistance level. Thanks :)

My XPS 200 keeps shutting down and power light blinks

During when does your computer shutdown? Please check the diagnostic lights at the back as well which ones have light on it during the time it would shutdown.

Since you said that the light is blinking yellow it just says that your power supply is running outside its normal operating range. So most likely you would need a change of power supply. Maybe a higher wattage would be better.

Screen is black after sleep/hib, Dell studio XPS, Vista.

Hibernate problems are generally associated with the Video Driver. Suggestions:
  1. Update the BIOS to the current release. Here is the latest for the 1645. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&ServiceTag=&SystemID=STUDIOXPS1645&os=WV64&osl=en&catid=&impid=
  2. Update the video driver.

POWERS UP BUT THEN FREEZES AFTER ABOUT 4 MINUTES

Need to test and isolate where it exactly freezes? After dell logo, after windows logo or while inside windows? Now, if it only freezes inside windows try to turn off your windows updates and antivirus first and check if still freezes, if yes then try booting in safe mode, reboot system then keep tapping on f8 once dell logo appears. Check if laptop keeps freezing in safe mode. Please let me know.
