I replaced fuel and carb lines on my Poulan 2450 chain saw. I cannot seem to find the correct path/attachment for the throttle connection. Parts diagrams do not show this. Can someone provide a diagram showing throttle cable and carb connections?

It is quite difficult to explain exactly how it fits, the cable always looks too long and has to curl around on itself back to the trigger, the picture shows quite well how it goes, the end of the cable with a dog leg in it goes to the carb, as far as i remember it goes to the upper hole in the carb spindle, just push it into the hole and turn through 90%, the other end fits into the throttle trigger.I replaced fuel and carb - adw1_9.jpg

I have two poulan chain saw with the same problem can not get the gas to flow from the tank to the carb .the primer fine also the fuel lines have been replaced

It is important if you have changed the fuel lines that they are reconnected correctly, the bubble is a purge not a primer, so it pulls fuel from the carb and dumps back to the tank, on the back of the bubble there are two connections, one long one short, the long connection is the pressure side so goes back to the tank, the short one is the suction side so this goes to the carb connection nearest to the metering cover ( the one held with four screws) the fuel hose from the tank with the filter on the end goes to the connection on the carb nearest to the pump cover (held with a single centre screw) if you have not already done so replace the fuel filter in the tank.

Why won't the saw run other than when the choke is in the 1/2 position and dies whenever throttle is applied?

Your carb is starving gas from your saw. You will have to remove the carb. and take it apart, check the diaphragms for hardening or splitting, clean all passages and screen. There is a lot of small parts that have to be put back together correctly, also the diaphragms and their gaskets have to be installed right.

Make sure youmhave connected the primer hoses correctly, the shorter of the two connections on the back of the primer ( suction ) goes to the carb, this pulls fuel from the carb, the longer connection dumps fuel back to the tank, if you removed the cylinder end cap, you need to re seal this to the cylinder with instant gasket, also make sure the air tube between the cylinder and carb is correctly seated.

I HAVE TO REPLACE FUEL LINES ON A POULAN MODEL 2450 CHAIN SAW NOT SURE WHERE TO HOOK THE LINES TO AS THE OLD LINES WAS ROTTEN AND CAME OFF THE POSTS OR LOCATIONS WHERE THEY WERE HOOKED

Hi,

Sorry to hear of your predicament. It's upsetting but not that hard to fix.

You'll have to drain the gas out of the tank first and toss it if it isn't fresh. Remove the filler cap. Take the cover off the saw and possibly the air filter if it's in the way.
Turn the saw upside down and shake the fuel filter to the opening of the gas tank (it's inside the tank) and grab it with a needle nose pliers and pull it out. If the line was that bad, you'll want to replace the fuel filter also.
You'll need to get new fuel line, which is clear tubing. You'll need about 6-8 inches of tubing.
Attach the new line to the fuel filter and feed the line into the gas tank and through the hole in the bottom. Pull it all the through to the interior of the saw. Feed the line around to the small metal tube on the carburetor. Before you connect to the carb, cut the excess line off.
If your saw has a priming bulb, connect the line to the fuel entrance on the bulb.

I hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up vote. Thanks,

Carb. connector hose to air filter keeps melting.

There should be only two small diameter hoses (lines) that connect to the carburetor--one comes from the fuel filter in the tank and the other connects to the primer bulb. If either of these is melting/breaking from heat, someone has replaced them with inferior rubber/plastic tubing or you have some serious engine heat problems! Buy the correct lines from a Poulan saw dealer and replace the junk. If you had that much heat, it would have seized the piston in the engine. After the lines have been replaced, check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Start the engine and after warm up, open the throttle fully. It should 4-stroke but immediately 2-stroke when cutting. If it 2-strokes at all times, then the 'H' jet needle may need to be adjusted. Don't ignore this as it causes overheating, low power, and possible engine damage. Hope this helps!

I have this saw and really like it. Does the the primer seem to work? Most problems on these saws can be traced back to cracked fuel lines. Either tank to primer, primer to carb, or carb return back to tank. I would recommend it the saw it more than 3 years old to replace all the fuel lines. Total cost about $5. Buy your fuel line at Ace Hardware.

Fuel line diagram model 2450

The IPL (exploded parts list) for your saw is the only detail for fuel line routing and it is sketchy at best. Fuel components and part numbers are listed but may be on different illustrations. They are also beneficial with disassembly/reassembly (a "2450 Gas Saw Type 7" example IPL follows. may not be your saw):

The dash number of your serial number is the type.

The Poulan print is deceptive, my schematic (below) is correct.

  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, an output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.
Take lots of notes and a few digital photographs to help with reassembly.

I need info on a Poulan Pro 445 fuel line routing

I'm so confused. This is reported as a Poulan and McCulloch pole saw, which one? Is it a pole saw? That is the only 445 Poulan I can find. It is reported as an electric but has a fuel routing problem.

If it is a Poulan Pro gas pole saw it is here: PP445 Gas Pole Pruner
The fuel system routing is terrible, but it is all there is.
Fuel Routing follows:
Tank to carburetor (hose in tank with filter on free end)
Carburetor to primer (primer draws fuel from the tank through the carb)
Primer to fuel tank (returns any excess fuel to tank when pushed) HTH
