Suddenly, "No Signal" display when cable box/VCR Connected to UHF/VHF Jack

My KV-27FS13 color TV, with a cable box and Sony VCR connected to the UHF/VHF jack on the rear, suddenly has started displaying the yellow "No Signal" message when the TV is turned on. The red standby light flashes twice and goes off, then the "No Signal" appears. This just happened this evening after having had the TV on this morning and everything working perfectly.

Turning on the VCR and pressing the TV/Video button doesn't change anything. Still "No Signal".

Connecting this same cable box/VCR setup to the rear jacks on two of my other color TV's works fine; nothing wrong with the cable box or the VCR; everything plays and displays just fine.

The red, white and yellow A/V connections are working. I can hook up my camcorder and DVD, and those play just fine in their usual "Video 1" and "Video 2" settings.

Forgot to mention. I bought this set in November 2001, and have had this cable box/VCR setup hooked up to it ever since.

Thanks to a recommendation from a buddy, I found a TV repairman who makes house calls. $35 for the visit to diagnose the repair (a bum tuner), $200 to replace it. The total was less than half the price of a new 32" flat screen, and much, much less than what I would have paid for an extended warranty over all these years.

TV works great, and I owe my buddy a dinner at his favorite restaurant. Thanks to everyone on fixya who helped.

Have a look at your manual below. If problem persists you need to call a tech to check if it can be repaired localy. If you have some experience remove cover and check the condition of electrolytic capacitors, resistors etc. at main board. You need also some special tools for replacing components. Good luck!!

Hi,

Initially, may I suggest that:

verify that the KV-27FS13 is tuned to either channel 3 or 4 with the cable box and Sony VCR connected to the UHF/VHF jack;
play a known good VHS tape and determine if the taped movie would display on the TV;
verify if the Sony VCR has a VTR button and is pressed or activated.

Depending on the results of the above checks, probable faults could be:

defective tuner block/assy of the KV-27FS13;
defective rear jack of the KV-27FS13.

A temporary workaround other than repair would be:

connect the Sony VCR to the KV-27FS13 using Video (1 or 2) A/V INput (from the Sony VCR A/V OUTput).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

It seems power supply is faulty. Take it to authorized service shop to troubleshoot and repair.

How long have you owned the tv? You have two options though your best bet is to locate your nearest authorized service center to have the tv repaired.

Use the supplied RF coaxial cable to

Helpful Hint:
- Depending on how you have currently
connected your TV channel (directly from an

PICTURE SEEMS TO BE BLURRED WHEN ITEMS MOVE FAST ON SCREEN, ESPECIALLY PERSONS IN CLOSE UP.

The Sony Bravia KDL-32BX320 generally gets excellent reviews (4.5 stars out of 5) from owners, so I have to wonder what you're watching.

This is an HDTV and should excel when provided an HD signal to display. SD (standard definition) signals often look worse on an HD display than on an SD display. An HD signal is only available via the following ways (reference the image below):

1) An "over the air" (UHF / VHF) antenna is connected to the cable / antenna input and there is a broadcaster of HD content nearby (only an over the air antenna can input HD signals to this jack - no cable boxes, etc.).

2) An HD Cable TV, DirecTV or Dish Satellite set top converter, Blu Ray Disk Player (or other HD source is connected via HDMI or Component RGB jacks.

3) An HD video played back from a computer hard drive connected to the VGA jack (when the computer is equipped with a modern processor and video card).

You will NOT be able to view HD video if:

1) The source material is a SD (non-HD) source. An over the air antenna will not provide HD signals if the broadcaster does not have HD content to show or is not capable of broadcasting in HD. Digital is not necessarily HD.

2) The source material (other than over the air antenna) is connected via Antenna / Cable jack.

3) The source material is connected via Composite jacks.

The USB jack is generally not an input for motion pictures, but may display stills - depending on the TV's ability to play the format they are stored in (jpeg, gif, bmp etc.).

How to add an Exterior Speaker to Sony KV-13M10

Welcome to FixYa!

To add an exterior speaker to Sony KV-13M10, you have to have an AMPLIFIER.

At the back of your TV you will be able to see 3 RCA output namely = VHF/UHF, Audio and Video.
Use an RCA cable and connect to the Audio output.
At the back of your amplifier, connect the other end of the RCA cable to an RCA input labeled Audio - L (left, usually in white color).
Your speaker should be connected to your amplifier labeled output or audio out. The connection type depends on the make and model of your amplifier. The speaker wires usually come in red and black color. red goes to red, black goes to white.

A simple diagram will look like this:

TV audio out -------------> amplifier audio in (left, white color) amplifier audio out (left, white color) -----------> speaker (black wire) amplifier audio out (right, red color) ------------> speaker (red wire)

No,you can not unless you use a separated converter box.There is no way to get the digital signal out of the tv to be recorded.

I have an older but operable Sanyo VWM-700 4 head hi-fi VCR to connect to an older but operable 13" TV just to watch workout video cassettes(via cable, no cable box necessary).How are the connections made...

You connect the Antenna to the VCR, you connect the AV OUT from VCR to AV IN on TV.(Yellow, Red & White) (Doesn't matter as long as color to color) Then you TUNE the VCR to the channels and the TV simply acts as a monitor. You must tune the TV to the OUTPUT from the VCR. If ya play a tape and look for the signal on the TV, to "Tune it in" to the VCR. first. then go to tuner.
