Not really, the older NiCad batteries get a memory effect if you keep charging from a half charged state, but modern Lithium batteries do not suffer from this problem.
If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. These rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Battery

Eventually your battery will have a short/no life indeed. Though this happens to all laptops.
Using your laptop while it is charging isn't going to damage anything. It just means that the battery will take longer to charge because you're using the laptop.
To get the most life out of the battery, fully charge it and then use it until it is empty. It's also a good idea to remove the battery when the laptop is connected to the mains supply.
All you're trying to do is extend the life of the battery. The day will come when it holds a short/no charge.

Battery light flashing amber

Is the battery a exact spec.? Some aftermarket batterys, inexpensive replacements, do not play-well with your laptop. If you purchased from a computer store, return for a replacement. That said, It may be that it's not fully charged or need to be drained and charged, cycle it a few times. Some batteries have to go through a "learning" process. It says fully charged in windows software, right? again, some replacement batteries don't play-well with windows. Its a "pins" thing in the battery connector.

Lenovo g550 turns off when power supply is disconnected ,battery shows fully charged

Replace the battery, it's faulty.

Batteries only have a useful life, then they have to be replaced. Sounds like yours is doing like the ink cartridges, where they register as being full of ink when actually there is no ink in the cartridge.

My battery was was not charged for 2 days over the weekend and now it won't run on batteries. I need to have it on AC power every time I use it.

Hello,
Laptop batteries can become unchangeable if they are completely discharged, and left that way for too long. This happened to my Asus. IF you leave it charging over night and it still doesn't work you will need a new battery. If you contact the manufacture they will probably charge you over $100 for a new battery. If you use eBay, the average price is $32.

If the battery is fully charged when i plug the charger stopped charging or not in Lenovo z560 ?

Welcome to FixYa

When the battery is fully charged and you still have the ac adapter plugged in then the battery would no longer be charged. The computer would then be running on ac adapter power.

hope this helps

My lenovo 3000 Y 500 7761 47Q is shutting down abruptly. Hi Team, I am using Lenovo Laptop since Aug 2007. Around an year back April 2009 my laptops adapter was short circuited and I purchased a new one...

Have you tried a different battery. When the system is on, please check your battery settings to see if it is fully charged. Go to Start/Control Panel/Power Options and the very last tab.

This should tell you how much battery power is in. If it is very low it means that your battery is not getting a full charge and this could be the cause of your problem.

Let me know how it goes. Don't forget to vote for me.

Battery problem-plugged in, not charging. Lenovo 3000 N100.Type:0768.Model:24U.S.no:L3LA215. Please offer a solution.

Had the same problem with a manufactured refurb, would go to 79 %, if you go to power options, change plan settings, change advance power settings, then to the Lenovo energy management tab, press the big enable Lenovo energy management, click on the blue gear to the left of the question mark, if "Optimize for Battery lifespan" is selected it will only charge the battery to 80%, change this to "Optimize for Battery Runtime" and it will charge to 100%

Batery hang problem

batteries have a charge memory in the, when you purchase a new battery the best thing to do is to fully drain the battery before charging it up, this will tell the battery that it needs full charge, if you charge the battery before this it will only charge the battery to a certain percentage.
what you need to do now is find a way to fully discharge the batteries

kind regards
