Hello

The majority of dishwashers are not connected to hot water from the mains but heat up the water internally using the heating element, located in the tub of the dishwasher, controlled by a thermostat. When the dishwasher has a fault with heating, the program will run but not complete and will show an error code on the display panel. Dishes won't be cleaned properly and the detergent won't dissolve.

If your dishwasher does bring in hot water externally from the mains to check the water is warm and there are no problems with the inlet. If the dishwasher heats internally then it is most likely a faulty heating element or thermostat. A fault like this will usually require a replacement part and a repair, but you can check the heating element with a voltmeter to ensure that it is the cause of the problem before calling out for a service engineer.

Westinghouse dishwasher sb916sk runs 22 minutes then cuts power

Is it on a dedicated circut? A dishwasher needs to have a 12Ga two conductor with ground line that is dedicated to ONLY the dishwasher and possibly share with the garbage disposal.
Also, it should be on a 20 Amp breaker.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If the cycle doesn't complete, then the first thing that should be checked is the Timer and then the heating element. Timers don't often fail. But if every other part of the dishwasher seems to be working properly and the timer knob seems to be stuck in one place--doing one function continuously--the timer may be at fault. Dishwasher timers can't be repaired. If yours is defective, replace it. Many dishwashers heat the wash and/or rinse water to a higher temperature, as the cycle calls for it. In these cycles, the dishwasher pauses after it has filled with water, waiting for the water to reach the pre-set temperature. What happens next depends, as follows: On some units, the pause is timed and the unit continues after the allotted time. On others, the cycle can't continue until the water reaches the higher temperature. If you have this type of dishwasher and the water isn't being heated (say, because of a problem with the heating element or thermostat), after the unit stops at the heating cycle, it never continues. When you repair the heating-system problem, the "cycle problem" is fixed too. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

I have a Bosch SHV55M03GB dishwasher which does not heat the water. The programme cycle also sticks at the last minute. Any ideas, heater element or control panel? Thanks.

If cycle proceed normally after waiting for a while, then the control is probably OK. It stands by a while because it does not read correct temperature before proceeding.

If the appliance is connected to both hot and cold water, open more the hot water faucet.

If the water is not heating at all, check heating element for continuity, using a tester.

If water is heating regularly, but cycle is still slow, check thermic sensor.

Here are more suggestions from Repairclinic:

The cycles times are too long If your dishwasher's cycle times are too long, check these:

Water pre-heating
Cycle not completing
Water pre-heating Your dishwasher may pre-heat the water. If so, and if the water entering the dishwasher is cool, the heater may take up to half an hour to heat the water.

To avoid the wait, increase the incoming water temperature before turning on the dishwasher. Do that by running the kitchen sink faucet until the water runs hot. Or increase the temperature of the hot water to the entire house at the hot water heater.

Warning! To lessen the risk of scalding, don't set the hot water heater temperature higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you need replacement parts or exploded views you find them here.
