Press the release mode dial lock and turn the release mode to the one-handed clock symbol. Press the shutter release button to start the self-timer.

If you want to change the length of the self-timer delay, it's the Custom Setting #c3.

The release mode dial is on the top left of the camera (as viewed from the back). The lock is just below and left of the dial.

Transcode Nikon D7000 MOV to Apple ProRes for editing on FCP X

Import Nikon D7000 MOV footage to FCP X-Convert MOV to ProRes 422 HQ

I have a Nikon D7000, which shoots HD MOV Movies. Last week I shot many videos with it on my friend's birthday party and wanted to edit them before sharing them to vimeo. I copied the movies from Nikon D7000 to Mac and imported them to FCP X for editing, but I failed because the MOV movies of Nikon D7000 were not compatible with FCP X. I goggled on the Internet and found Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac, which supports Nikon D7000 MOV. I tried it and successfully convert Nikon D7000 MOV recordings to Apple ProRes, which is supported by FCP X.

Here's a quick guide on how to Convert Nikon D7000 MOV files to Apple ProRes 422 for editing on FCP X.

1. Load Nikon D7000 MOV videos to Aunsoft VideoConverter for Mac
Before this step, please Connect Nikon D7000 to Mac and Transfer Nikon MOV Video files to Mac or hard disk from outside, then launch Video Converter for Mac.

Click the "Add" button to import the video files into the program, then you will see an interface as below.

2. Choose Apple ProRes as its output format and set where to store the movie.
Click the "format" option, choose "Apple ProRes 422(HQ) (*mov)" under "Final Cut Pro" as its output format. Click "Browse" to choose where you want to store the converted ProRes movies.

3. Export Apple ProRes 422(HQ) movies for editing on FCP X
After setting the output format and destination, click the button "Convert" and conversion starts immediately. After only a few minutes,
you can Editing Apple ProRes 422(HQ) on FCP X.

Tips:
If you want to backup HD videos to hard drive or watch them on iPhone and ipad with smaller size but original quality, iMedia Converter for Mac will help you.

How can you have the Nikon D7000 show the LCD info screen on startup?

On the D90, set Custom Setting F1 to "Both". When turning on the camera, turn the switch two notches, past the "On" position to the backlight position before releasing it. This will bring up the information screen.

On the D7000, set Custom Setting F1 to "backlight and information display". Turn the camera on the same way.

It's not quite as convenient as having the information display come up automatically, but you should be able to train yourself to turn the camera on by turning the switch all the way.

I have a nikon d7000 from a gift and i never used a dsl camera before, how do i learn to use?

You can start with the online tutorial on Nikon's web site at
http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d7000/index.html

You might also visit your local library or bookstore and browse through the photography section. There are plenty of books on introductory photography, introductory DSLR photography, and other topics. The manual does a great job of explaining what each of the controls do, but doesn't do so great a job of explaining why you'd want to change these things. It's like the owner's manual for a car: you wouldn't want to learn how to drive just by reading it.

And most important: go out and take pictures! You're not paying for film and processing, so take a lot of pictures and look at them on your computer. Experiment, see what the different settings do.
