A common problem is a WORN jack that is caused by the user NOT looping the guitar cable through the strap or their belt loop. The rotation of the cable as it is played wears both the plug and the jack and causes noise and dropouts. Also verify that the battery connections are corrosion free. Also verify the problem is not with your amp.

I am no expert about such things but the electric guitar pickups work with steel strings, wouldn't work if the strings weren't steel - the pickup is a coil of wire and the vibration of the steel string generates an output in the coil the amplifier can work with.

The pickups of the acoustic guitar are presumably glorified microphones that would usually work in a similar fashion to the above, by generating an output but if they are active devices they will need a power supply in order to generate an output, something a standard amplifier input will not provide.

An active device either needs an independent power supply to make the device work like a radio needs a battery or the device will create the output by varying the current flow of the voltage applied across it.

Looking to buy my first acoustic electric guitar, I'm looking at a Martin gpcpa-1 plus with vts or a Taylor 814ce DLX grand auditorium, which is the better guitar

David, you have excellent taste! Both guitars are excellent: Martin has had a reputation as a premier guitar line since 1833- almost 200 years! The Taylor guitar company started in 1974, and is currently (according to Wikipedia, quoting a USA Today article) the #1 guitar maker in America.

I can see why the choice is difficult- they are both Rosewood guitars with Sitka spruce top on a cutaway body, and they are both incredible players.

The Taylor is a little more expensive at $3,999 than the Martin $3,399.

It will come down to which you like better and what kind of music you play- if you record, ask a professional sound engineer which will sound better for your particular style. I happen to like the Taylor neck, but that's mostly because I play a 12- but I cannot see how you would be disappointed with either of these fine instruments.

Action is a bit high. Everyone is saying the DC16RGTE guitar sounds great and gives good volume. I found the one I have is not loud and it has too much boom. Is there a problem with this guitar?

Make sure the guitar CANNOT "HEAR" the amp you are using. Local regeneration (feedback below the level to sustain full feedback) will give a boom sound like in a cave. If you get near enough to the amp for feedback to build up, you can actually see the string vibrating and building up. The loudness has much to do with the amp you connect this too and the settings

Hi! I've a Martin DXME 6 string acoustic guitar and have tension problem how can i fix it?My string set is 0.12-0.52 elixir bronze. Is it possible to adjust it by truss rod? Thanks ct

With that guitar I would recommend taking it to a guitar shop for setting it up. You do NOT want to mess with the truss rod yourself unless you have had experience doing that.

I've got Takamine JJ 325 My problem is backround noise - What can i do ?

Acoustic guitars pickup noise almost like a microphone. You have to prevent the sound from reaching the guitar or get a solid body guitar.

I bought my Taylor acoustic/electric brand new. It sounds great, but when i plug it into my amp no sound comes out. I replaced the battery, but it still failed to work. When i plug it in to the amp and...

IF YOUR GUITAR has a built in tuner, make sure the tuner is off as it disables output while tuning... The other thing is to check if you have a volume control on the guitar that might be set too low.. Make sure if you are using 1/4 inch plug guitar cable that it is NOT a TRS balanced cable, as that will turn off the power in the guitar.
