I purchased my old computer in 2009 and it came with the Hitachi HD, HDS721010CLA332 (0F10383). That computer has failed and I purchased a new HP Pavilion. Can I take the old Hatachi HD and make it a slave drive on my new computer? If so, how and what do I do to make it work? Thank you for your help. Regards, Bill

Hi there.

Since your hard drive is a SATA drive, there is no such thing as master and slave drive anymore.

All you need to do is plug it into your new computer (assuming there is an extra slot for a hard drive in there). You will need an extra plug from your power supply that will plug into the hard drive as well as a SATA cable that will plug your hard drive into the motherboard.

Another thing you can do is get an external hard drive enclosure and put it in that. Just make sure you get a SATA one, not an IDE one. I hope this helps.

Dropped Hitachi HD

WOW! Really painful!

CREATE a "backup" folder on your GOOD drive first.

Try this... YOU are trying to get your Hitachi drive to boot and READ! So PLACE your Hitachi Drive in GIVEN position and RETRY booting each time...

VERTICAL (connectors UP).. then connectors down. Will it boot and ACCESS? Try PC board UP, etc, etc... EVERY position you can think of... REBOOTING each time you re-position...

Hopefully ONE of those positions WILL allow you to ACCESS your Hitachi!! As soon as you can, SAVING your most important things first.

IF ALL ELSE FAILS...
Take a look at the photo below... See the chrome 'arm' above the stacked disk(s)? You want to BANG the disk into your palm and hopefully 'free' that "arm" to access your drive again freely! Amigo ~ THIS IS a last resort...

But finally ~ it is written on the Pyramid Walls... BACK IT UP!

Anthony

External Harddrive does not work

Hi:
Hitachi hard drive are junk they are poorly made, but here is an option the could by a bigger hard drive and install it in the External case they are all the same, first take out the old HD from the case and take it with you to the store and purchse the same connection type wether its IDE or Sata and install it in the case, the cases are universal and all most all 5-1/4 inch HD will fit in the case is does not have to be A Hitachi Brand any brand will fit, I recommend a Seagate HD.

Blue spot and vertical smudge in center of screen. Problem comes after tv is running. Tv is Hitachi 50V500A Projection. Thank You

The problem is your light engine is failing. The part number for this is UX22201DR and is available for purchase with the following link. It runs $334 dollars and really is a part that needs to be replaced by a technician due to the complexity in tear down to remove it. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks...

Black screen

This model has built in multimedia that does not need the operating system (or hard disk) to play movies and music. So it probably is a bad hard drive. Laptop HDs are notorious for failure. That being said, it doesn't take an expert to replace a hard drive and reload the OS and you can get one pretty cheap (<$50) on eBay. DO NOT get a Hitachi or IBM though - my pref is Western Digital or Fujitsu. You will also need the OS disks which you may not have as many systems are putting the install disks on the 1st HD sector. You can usually order disks cheap from HP if you have your purchase info. If you can downlaod and burn an iso image to CD from another computer, the "Ultimate Boot Disk" (search Google) is a great free testing CD.

Surround Sound Installation

The Hitachi 50UX57B is a 50 inch standard projection TV with a standard screen. It is not HD ready. If you need it, I think I can download the owner's manual (in PDF format) from Hitachi and foward it to you.

Convergence

You need to most likely replace the convergence output IC's probably STK392-110's and check associated resistors around it. HD is not mandated for 2009, only digital braodcast it is at that point all analog television broadcast must stop.
