Question about Technics SL-1200 Turntable

Open Question

I have a technic 1200 mk2. Yesterday while spinning the speed started to vary. Not pressing anything, the turntable would speed up and slow down by it self (only a small bit, not going crazy) just enough where the songs sound sped up or slowed down. When i pressed the start/stop again to stop the turntable it doesnt stop right away. It takes about 10 seconds to stop, but as its slowing down the turntable jumps (not a smooth stop) Some small things i noticed, when i pressed play all the lights, would slightly (very very small difference) dim and flicker (very very light difference) Any ideas what it could be?

SOURCE: technic 1200 mk2 turntable wont spin

need to know if it powers up. Does it try to spin, do you hear it trying to spin? More than likely the on/off switch went bad. No, I am not referring to the ON/OFF knob. THere is a switch this engages when turned. The part is S601. You might also want to replace the Start/Stop switch as well. If neither work, then the issue is on the main PC board, and probably IC101, or IC201 with the problem. At this stage, you will have to have a service tech look at your unit.

Sounds like a short on the pcb, one of the IC's could have gone bad, or the 33/45 have shorted out. Unless you have the proper tools i can only direct you to who you could send it to or order the part(s) from. If youre good at soldering and can work in square inch spaces, go for..

SOURCE: Technics SL-1200MK2 Turntable i need to replace the on off switch on a mk2 technics 1200 any

The part is located HERE - but you will have to take apart your turntable from the bottom in order to replace it. It's not very hard, but if your not mechanically inclined, I would not suggest doing it, as you could cause more damage.

SOURCE: help for technics 1200 MK2 and 1210 Speed is too fast

On the 1200MK2 the pitch control slider is for just that purpose. Disregard the 0 setting and use the illuminated strobe marks on the platter to adjust to nominal speed. When they appear to be motionless you are there. The control on the 1210 may be a knob but the same principles apply.

Hi, I have just bought a second hand Technics SL-1200 MK2 and it looks great overall. There is one problem though with the pitch. When I want to slow down the speed a bit, the platter starts to spin a...

Your problem Is more than likely one of two easy to fix things. First we'll try the easiest. that would be reset the centerpoint of your pitch controll. All you need is a Phillips screwdriver and a little time and this picture: Apparently the picture is too blurry to read so let me give you the link: http://www.deckdoctor.com.au/TECHNIC%20SL1200%20PCB.pdf
you don't have to worry about all the technical stuff really it's just started look at the strobe lights and slowly turn the screw as you move the slider back to Center and make sure you bring this keep the strobe stable. if that doesn't fix your problem, then you do have to worry about the complicated stuff. If you are not familiar with all of that, I would suggest just replacing the pitch control. it's cheaper than paying what it would cost you at a repair shop and very straight forward. You don't even need to saulder. They don't cost very much and the part number is right there you can get one on eBay for pretty cheap. Good luck

Hi there. although my mk2 plays normally, sudenly i cannot hear it. i`ve checked wires and cartridge, what else it could be?

You need to check that the signal is getting to the amp. This can be done by removing the wires off the cartridge for the left and right channels. With the amp on touch the ends of the wires. If you hear a buzz the signal is getting to the amp and the cartridge is dead, but if you hear nothing and if the wiring is as you say good. Then the pre-amp in your amp for the cartridge has failed. This pre-amp will only affect the record deck and no other functions. If it has gone you can trace the wires from the sockets to it. Sometimes it will be on a seperate PC board. It's often a single IC that has failed. If you can replace it yourself be careful with the new one as these are often static sensitive chips.
PS the phono scokets on the amp sometimes buzz if you pull the plugs in & out!

Try plugging it into a different power point. The problem is with the power supply fluctuating. You can eliminate that with a UPS, here is a link to wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninterruptible_power_supply

Turntables lags on pick up

I have the same exact problem with one of my 1210 MK2 turntables. It seems like the motor is too slow now. When I hit the start button or release the record, it takes much longer to speed up to the normal speed than my other same exact turntable. I don't think it has anything to do with the pitch slider. Please let me know if you find out what the problem is thanks!

some times static charge fomr your hands or other things make this happen...don't touch the pole in the middle while speeding it up or slowing it down...if you mixing tracks...either shove the record or touch the edge of the platter...touching the pole send statis from your hands down the pole to the motor and it just takes off...I have been djing for ten years and in the begining it happend to me...
