I have a RCI 2950 comes on keyed up and stays keyed untill you turn it off. I have replaced the auto amp, all voltage regulators and the black diode with yellow strip below mic plug with no change. I need to fix this 2950 befor he deploys to Iraq and I am doing this for him free of charge. Can you help me?

I have the same radio rci 2950. Ive had the same problem with mine, turns out with mine the processor would lock up,turning the radio off & on repeadly would clear the problem and the radio would work fine x-mit & recieve. the solution to fixing the problem is to replace the memory backup battery this battery works similar to a computer motherboard cmos battery when this battery goes dead all sorts of strange things happen to the radio wont transmit wont recieve or like your problem transmits continiously. the problem with replacing this battery is finding out what year & model your ranger 2950 is. the internet says only first generation ranger 2950s use the battery second genration & third generation do not use the battery. but the internet could be wrong. so i suggest getting a hold of (usa ranger.com) & give them a phone call or email and ask them about the year your radio was made. they may even service it for you or if you are electronic savvy you can do it yourself. the battery is located close to the main cpu on the front panel if yours uses a battery.

Why is my 1972 chevelle voltage regulator make noise when you rev it up

If the battery is no good, then you will hear the alternator
hum all the time, trying to charge it

Check for diode problems & A/C Ripple on the circuit

Check all vehicle grounds (wires)

If the wiring is good & the light comes on, it isn't charging
properly,have you not metered that,voltage,amperage &
ripple

You can go through 3 alternators from the auto part chains, to
find a good one.

I HAVE A 1994 BUICK REGAL,WHEN I START THE VEHICLE THE AMP GAUGE STAYS AT ABOUT 6 VOLTS,AND THEN I TURN ON THE PARKING LIGHTS AND IT GOES TO NORMAL ABOUT 14,I TURN OFF THE PARKING LIGHTS AND IT STAYS ON...

replace the voltage regulator
amp gauges read amps or current flow
volte gauges read volts so if the volt gauge reads 6 with the engine running indicates that the regulator is not coming into service until the battery voltage drops and that triggers the regulator
an accredited auto electrician will be able to test the complete charging system and advise on the fault

2950 RCI WONT TURN ON ONLY A BACKGROUND LIGHT

You either have a bad LCD display OR the connection for the LCD display is loose/off. Its impossible to tell what channel you are on with a 2950 without the screen working, but when you turn the channel knob do you hear any other cb transmitting on ANY channel?? This is a tough one!! I really need some more info on the radio.

Open the case and look at the area that the display is in (front of radio). Slightly wiggle all of the little plugs in that area. If you see the LCD screen come on or flash then you know where your problem lies. If not, then you're probably looking at buying a LCD display for the radio.

Good luck.

My ranger 2950 wont transmit or receive sounds like a relay problem but dont no for shour can you tell me what is wrong with that radio thank you.

could be a number of different problems causing this. I would start with your microphone make sure it is working. it is responsible for transmit & recieve. next check to see if the memory battery is dead this will also cause this problem. next check the regulators in the radio to see if they are supplying voltage.next check voltages in different parts of radio to see if all stages are recieving power follow these steps and something will show up also check your switching diodes to see if they are bad the diodes responsible for x-mit & r-mit of transceiver.

Check battery light stays on even though the voltage at the battery is 12.90 with engine off and 14.60 at idle ?

Your alternator is putting out good voltage, so internal voltage regulator is working, but what's happening the Diode is what going bad, the alternator put's out ac voltage, and the Diode turn it to dc voltage, could mess up your battery and elec. system, the Diode are like a one way valve, have it checked with a alternator, battery, starter tester, most auto parts will do this for free, if Diode's are bad it will show up in there tester.
