Hp dv2000 won't turn on...

My hp dv2000 won't turn on, when i press the on button, all the led lights come on and so does the power led. the hard drive led flashes for 3 times..and then there is no response...just a blank screen. however, the laptop does turn on at times..runs smoothly..i mean it's not slow or anything..it works perfectly. turning on seems to be its only problem :( somebody help plz! :(

but what exactly is wrong with it? power supply? hard drive? motherboard? i should atleast have some idea as to what exactly is wrong and why it's doing this?

  • ayesha07 Sep 13, 2008

but if it's the hard drive..is it 'normal' for the laptop to turn on occasionally and work as if nothing's wrong with it?

  • ayesha07 Sep 13, 2008

Thanks a lot rickzilla for your help :) but i have a question..u said significant dust build up may also cause such erratic behavior..so if i clean the dust (somehow) will my laptop go back to how it was turning on before? or is this a problem that is hard to resolve? and to answer your question..i don't think it's the lcd display..because i closed the lid and opened it to test the display..and it worked fine.

Hello Ayesha07,
Older Laptops can get lots of dust inside from the fan system designed to cool it. You may have a bad connection between your main board and the display. I have seen that cause eratic behavior on some systems. Since you mentioned that it does work from time to time normally, I would be more inclined to think you may have some problems with the lcd display..When it does come on, have you moved the display around ( meaning open and almost close the cover) to see if the display fails to work when you do that? As I mentioned earlier, you could have a signifiacant dust buildup inside the system and dust tends to cause intermittent shorts to the circuitry which may manifest itself as sporadic behavior. If and when the system comes up, I would strongly encourage you to create back up copies onto cd's/dvs's or an external usb drive so that you don't lose it if your laptop dies for good. Hope this helps a little.. Good Luck !

Good question... If you buy a can can of clean dry pressurized air ( sold in most electronic supply stores) ..you may be able to shoot that air thru various ports on your laptop and get the bulk of dust out. You'd be amazed at how much dust builds up on everything inside.. .. I don't recommend you try to separate the covers to access everything inside because of all the small screws involved. It can be difficult to reassemble things if you do get it all lined up and all screws back in the same location they came from..... ( you can try that if you feel confident you will be able to reassemble it correctly) everything has to line up just right and you may have different sized screws so you'll have to be very thorough on where each one goes.. anyway.. you may get lucky and dislodge the dust by blowing it thru the cd/dvd burner opening or any and all vents openings. Its a hit or miss thing.. and I do hope that works for you.. Good Luck ...

Hp pavilion dv2000 lights switch on but boot or

Hi

Thank you for your query

Please try the folowing

1) Remove ALL wires and then press and hold the power button in for approx 20 seconds

2) Plug everything back in and then rerty

This may sort the issue out however from what you are descrbing, if there is no boot or display it is highly likely the motherboard and/or the CPU is faulty

I would recommend that you book the PC into a reputable PC repair shop if the above does not work

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again

Screen wont turn on

remove the battery and the power from the laptop.....then press and hold down the power button for 20 seconds ...... attach the AC power only and turn on the laptop this should turn on the system.
This drains the capacitors on the system (safety feature of laptops ... quite common)

If this does not work remove the Ram and reseat it ... something has either come loose or the backlight on the LCD has gone bad.

Power Issue turn on and is turns off after 2 sec

Could be a glitched battery. Turn it on without battery installed. Also, to eleviate the memory - take it out. The unit will still turn on. I have to go along with HP support, that's it's probably the mother board. Now all is not gloomy. Hp has extended their warranty on many models, Dv2000-Dv6000 to name a few. Ask for a supervisor.
