As for whether your diagnosis of the problem is accurate or not, I would refer you to a tip I wrote some time back outlining a detailed diagnosis of the issue & how to fix it:

And if you cannot find the exact same converter for the Asus U52F-BBL5, & you have made sure it is really the defective part, consider using one of the universal converters advertised at the following link:

Welcome to Fixya
Try to plug in external monitor to your laptop. If you are getting a good image of the desktop on the external monitor then its gonna be the invert board is at fault. Please click this link for the inverter board.
Thank you for using Fixya!

I have already tried all of those places as well as numerous other sites.
The P/N on the inverter is listed as: 6870S-0826B
The P/N of the LCD itself is LP156WH3 (TL)(A2)
I have verified that it is not the motherboard at fault through the use of an external monitor.
The link posted does not have any inverters available, indeed that is one of the websites that I had previously looked at.
I had tried calling ASUS to absolutely no avail. The entire conversation was pretty unhelpful and it was clear that the guy I spoke with had no idea what I was asking for.
I did end up finding the answer to my problem, however. As it turns out, most retailers don't separate the inverter board from the LCD for this product. In fact, from my experience, most retailers don't even realize that there is an inverter board attached to this LCD, from which stemmed the original confusion.
Thanks for trying to help though!
I'd not heard of your tip for using a multimeter to test the inverter, however, as it turns out it was unnecessary.
I had also already looked into those universal converters, however it wasn't an acceptable solution to me simply because it's not what I'm looking for, but thanks for the suggestion.
