Is it ok to defragment my 2T goflex portable hard drive?

Yes. Defragmenting simply takes the pieces of empty space on the drive and groups them together. When you delete data from a drive or it is deleted as part of a program's function (such as deleting files only needed during installation) it leaves a blank space, but files are lined up on the drive. So if the files are like so:

2GB File ' 3 GB File ' 5.5 GB Free Space ' 1.5 GB File ' 4 GB Free Space

Then defragmenting would try to rearrange the files like so:

2 GB File ' 3 GB File ' 1.5 GB File ' 9.5 GB Free Space

So, in short, yes, it's okay to defragment your drive.

HOW TO PARTITION FREE AGENT 500 HARD DISK. i HAVE NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE AND WOULD LIKE TO ENSURE EXISTING DATA IN FREE AGENT REMAINS INTACT. pLEASE ADVISE

First, copy all of the data from the drive to another as a backup.

Now the drive already has a partition or you would not be able to store data on it. Therefore, you could only be speaking about dividing it into multiple partitions.

Therefore you delete the exisiting partition and then create smaller partitions. In Windows you will be limited to 4-partitions.

I hope this helps.

Multisystem ulility plus supporting OS

If you use the utility that comes with the drive, you will be able to access all of your files and folders that you encrypt on the drive privided that you don't forget your password. If you want to make sure that the drive is protable (can be used on multiple systems), you need to make sure you enable Travel Mode with the Seagate Manager software. You must remember the password in order to access your files.

I have a problem with my seagate agent go 500 gb. when plugged in to my laptop it doesn't detect it and it freezes my laptop until i unplug it. how can i get to my files in the external hard drive?

try to connect it to other computer, if it doesn't help, hdd is probably broken. If you disassemble, you will find internal hard drive, which you can try to connect to desktop PC to save your data, or look up for some data recovery company
