Protection keeps displaying on the screen after the unit has been on for about 30 mins or so. and it shuts the unit off is this a common problem with this mechine and how can i fix it?

Check fuel intake screen on bottom of pickup in fuel tank. Possibly floating debris.

Let the unit cool down for 30 min., give proper ventilation because your processor have a heat sensor, once reached the peak temp the unit will automatically shuts off. Keep away all the obstruction from your vent.

When compressors are on their way out, this is a symptom that is common.

You probably have the same problem that myself and several others have had, and let me guess, its outside of the warranty? How good are you with a soldering iron? If you are not afraid to do some soldering you can fix it, check out these instructions that i found:

you will need 474k or .47uf 100v capacitors and a soldering iron, but you can fix it, worked for me.

the fan is broken on your unit, this is a feature to keep the unit from over heating

check if there is anything blocking the fan from moving/rotating

try to contact your manufacturer

the protector comes on to keep the amp from further damaging itself or the speakers. The buzz you heard was probably 60HZ line buzz from the main DC supply conducting full current through one of your speakers through a damaged amplifier transistor. Your stereo will need professional repair. The protect circuit basically opens the speaker relay (and sometimes shuts down the unit) to prevent this DC voltage and current from getting to your speakers until the problem is corrected.

Regulator or power supply problem. Could also be X-ray protect coming on...accordianman

his set could have a few probems. One common problem on alot of mitsubishi big screens is the surface mount capacitors on the doubler module go bad, but usaully the set stays on but does not have any sound or picture. It is most likely a problem in the vertical. If there is no vertical sweep seen by a certain protection circuit, it will shut down the set to protect the picture tubes from having a line burned into them from just a single intensely bright line being displayed. I have had many a mitsubishi have pico fuses open randomly in the 26 volt line for the vertical and when replaced the set operated normaly. I also had bad solder connection on the vertical output I.C's causing them to short out and open the same pico fuse. There could be oher factors but those are 2 of the most common ones I see. Without actaully looking at the set thats the best I can do. I would say its well worth getting fixed..

All of the Denon recievers I have repaired (over 100) that shut down after a very short time are going into protect mode. The display lights up and after about 10 seconds the display goes out and the standby led blinks red.
I have found that they have one of 3 possible problems and they all require that the reciever be taken apart and fixed at component level. No way to tell what your problem is until it gets put on a bench and troubleshot.

Problem 1. This is the most common problem. One of the front channels shorts out. On the big heat sink the front channels are at each end. It is the front left channel (close to the display) This requires that the output transistors be replaced as well as some driver transistors and some resistors and a capacitor. Lots of work for a blown channel. Denon has put out a bullitin to upgrade the bias transistor and change a couple of resistors to help compensate for this failure. That channel overheats more than any other channel.

Problem 2. There is a resistor that is right next to the preamp board that opens up. It is a 10 ohm 1 watt resistor and when it opens, it causes the unit to go into protect.

Problem 3. The +12 volt regulator fails. It is in the power supply area on a smal heat sink right next to the -12 volt regulator. Generic part number is KIA7812 It also causes the unit to go into protect.

Most decent repair shops can fix these from about $120 up to about $200. Depending on which problem it is and how fast they are at finding the problem. Most charge labor by the hour.
