I have a Bosch 1/2" hammer drill (Model # 0 601 194 639) that is having a power issue. My first thought is the switch (trigger) is bad. The drill slowly lost it's variable speed control as I was drilling some holes and now is 100% full throttle any time it is plugged in (can't turn it off). So, now I've not only lost the variable speed, but the drill is always on (full speed) if it is plugged in. I believe the switch has gone bad (~7yrs old) - does that sound right?

Sounds as though you are on the right track. I would take it apart, and see if the trigger could have some dirt or other material causing it to stick, or is it worn to the point that it needs to be replaced. Good luck!

SOURCE: no power

Check the Cable between the plug and the switch for continuity using the ohmeter or continuity tester part of a cheap multimeter. Place one lead on each of the plug contacts in turn, and the other on the other end of that wire. If this is okay, check the switch for continuity by placing each lead of your tester on the in and out contacts and pressing the trigger. If still no joy, check the brushes. If still no joy, check the motor windings for continuity.

Hi, have you tried the various positions on the front part of the gearbox behind the 'chuck'?
If so, then Im afraid it must go in for repair. These are not an easy fix and personally I would recommend you ask for a 'quotation' as it could be just something simple to do with the 'Gearbox' selector, but it could also be something a lot more serious within the Gearbox.

Replacing cord on Bosch Hammer Drill

I don't know what model you have but most Bosch hammer drills have three or four screws on the backside of the handle that, when removed, let you split the handle from the motor housing and gain access to the switch and brushes. The screws may or may not be covered by a rubber, non-slip covering that you'll have to peel back to get at them.

You might have oil escaping past the ram seal. Other than grease for the chuck you should not have anything getting on your bits. I would have it checked out since it is so new.

EITHER THE CLUTCH IS SMOKED OR IT HAS SERIOUS GEAR ISSUES, NOT A GOOD TOOL TO TAKE APART UNLESS YOUR FAMILIAR WITH ROTO HAMMER INSIDES, GOOD HAMMER IF PARTS ARE AVAILABLE WILL PROBABLY COST COUPLE HUNDRED TO FIX PARTS AND LABOR!!

New bosch psb 550 re with hammer action. Hammer action does not seem to engage. even with 5mm bit progress is non existent. The bits were bosch masonary bits and I was drilling into concrete blocks

your pin under the selector switch my have broken off. also the hammer rod could have broken too. if its drilling and not hammering that more likely. you may be under warranty call bosch or log on and go to dealer locator's for the closes dealer to you. hope this helped

Hammer drill quit

If it is an 1199, forget it. Replace the brushes and do NOT use for hammering. It is a design problem. My unit was repaired 4 times and hammered about 5 holes each time before same failure.

Usually replacing the o-rings on the piston, striker and Impact bolt will solve any hammering issues. That is considering there is no damage to the mechanical parts in the hammer mechanism.
