I have a 6gb Rio Carbon which I cannot download songs to anymore. I am able to access the Rio Carbon with Rio Music Manager and change playlists, however, when I select a "wma" song to download the player just sits there with the "Idle" display. The computer software looks like it is trying to download (i.e., I get the folders with the papers flying across.) but nothing happens. Eventually, I get a failed message. I have checked my software for updates, and there are none. I tried to check for firmware updates, but the web site is no longer available. I used WMP 11.0 to rip the songs to the "wma" format.

When I transfer music from Rio Music manager to my Rio Carbon the music manager indicates transfer successful but the MP3 player states no tracks present?

Hello,
Try to transfer the tracks from the explorer.
1 Connect the Rio Carbon to a computer using the supplied USB cable.
2 Double-click My Computer on the Windows Desktop or in the Start Menu.
3 Locate MP3 or WMA audio files on the computer.
4 Highlight files and/or folders to transfer to the Rio Carbon.
5 Click Edit.
6 Click Copy.
7 Double-click My Computer on the Windows Desktop or in the Start Menu to open another window.
8 In the new window, locate the Rio Carbon (X:) icon that is associated with the Rio Carbon. (X equals the drive
letter assigned to the Rio Carbon.)
9 Double-click Rio Carbon (X:).
10Click Edit.
11Click Paste.

How do i download/transfer my rio carbo mp3 music database to my ipod itunes music manager??

The Rio Carbon is completely incompatible with iTunes (which uses AAC format). It only accepts mp3, wma, and some WAV's. The Rio Carbon is still the best mp3 player I ever owned, but since Rio doesn't make them anymore, it will never be compatible with iTunes. You can use it with Rhapsody's Mp3 Only service, or any music service that gives you the files in mp3 format - but you can't sync the songs through the music service's "synchronize function" - you have to download the files to a location on your computer, and then use the Rio music Manager to transfer the songs to your device.

Carbon Pearl: Invalid Argument

Try accessing the rio's hard drive through my computer to see if it can find the songs: they will be in a folder aptly called music within your rio carbon.

If this doesn't help then if it is picked up via my computer you could try wiping and rebooting your rio, read:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r601327-wipe_reboot_rio_carbon

You may have to change the firmware for the rio carbon pearl but this is easy to find on their website.

Hope this helps,

Mowcius

Rio carbon

You must use the native software - still available on rio's website. No other transfer method will work with this player.

EIO Carbon Pearl 5gb

Go to this part of the Rio website, and get the Plays for sure firmware update - even if you don't transfer any WMA files, this will help you get around the Windows Media Player 11 compatibility issue:
http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/rio/product.asp?prodID=234
(WARNING: make sure the player is fully charged before doing this, or your player will be permanently lost)

Rio pearl directory corrupted

first, and this is always good: If available, firmware for the Rio Carbon can be downloaded online. Second, this might be the problem: The Rio Carbon communicates with your computer differently in MTP mode than it does in MSC mode. When in MTP mode, the Rio Carbon cannot display hidden files in folders, cannot allow transfers to the root Rio Carbon directory, and cannot allow the creation of new folders. (Folders can be transferred to the Rio Carbon using drag-and-drop and copy-and-paste methods.) To use traditional folder options, change the Transfer Mode settings to put the Rio Carbon in MSC mode. Last, "..Removing the Rio Carbon from a USB connection before Idle is displayed on the screen may result in a corrupting the player's file system. If for any reason you suspect that your Rio player's file system has been corrupted, reformatting the player will restore the file system to its original state..."
